For the first time since 1952, the WWII-era steam locomotive 576 in Centennial Park fired it’s boiler.
The locomotive has sat at Centennial Park for decades and was just a great landmark and photo op, but earlier this week, restoration measures were put to the test when a fire was lit in the boiler. 6 years ago, it was moved from Centennial Park to a restoration site where they’ve been working hard to bring it back to life.
It’s been 74 years since a fire was lit in it, so that’s a huge milestone moment. They’re hoping to one day get it back on the rails.
