We typically don’t talk a lot about things like this, but I feel like we have to mention what’s going on in Lawrence County again because it just got even more bizarre, if you can imagine.
We told you about that new attendance and sick policy that they’re trying to implement, where students are expected to still show up to school even if they’re sick or it’s marked as an absence, after 8 absences, they will be referred to juvenile court. Now, the district just sent forms to some families, asking them to waive their children’s HIPAA rights.
Basically the form lets the district health staff know information about the child from their physician. On the form, the parent must also acknowledge that the information can be used against them in court proceedings. This is wild and I can’t believe that families are having to navigate through it… no words!
