If you’ve got one or a few headed back to school this Fall, there’s a good chance you spent last weekend searching for all of their school supplies. And if you’re like a lot of parents, you might be scratching your head as to why things are so expensive nowadays. But it’s not necessarily that items are more expensive (they are) but the list of needed items seems to be a lot longer than it used to be when I was a kid. So, I went digging and found out why school supplies have become so pricey. According to the National Retail Federation, American’s will spend upwards of $41.5 Billion on back to school supplies this year. That’s up from $36.9 billion last year by the way. A few other findings include:
– the average family will spend $890 on school supplies or $25 more than last year
– 69% of families expect to buy at least one electronic item for this school year
– biggest reason why back to school supply prices are rising… Recovering from inflation followed by longer school supply lists.
So how much did you spend on school supplies this year? Was it more or less than last year? Did you shop over the Tax-Free Holiday weekend, and how much were you able to save? Always love hearing from you, so be sure to leave your comments below. Thanks for stopping by my little slice of the web! – Butter
