March is National Disabilities Awareness Month and to celebrate, we wanted to let you know about a great resource right here in Middle Tennessee.
BrightStone is a nonprofit and educational day program for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. BrightStone’s work focuses on helping adults gain purpose and achieve their highest level of independence. With education at its core, the comprehensive day program includes vocational training, music, visual arts, health and wellness, an enterprise program, and more, where students can maximize their talents and discover their interests. At BrightStone, adults also learn critical life and social skills, and are supported in a spiritual and loving environment.
BrightStone is celebrating its 25th Anniversary this year. In 2022, the organization relocated to its Land of Dreams campus off Columbia Pike in Franklin, TN. A residential program will begin in March 2024 in the first of two homes completed as part of Phase I of a $20million Capital Campaign, which also included a 23,000sf Learning Center. The future vision is big, and includes more homes, an aquatic center, gymnasium, marketplace, chapel, event center, and more. The completion of these facilities will be dictated by community funding. Approximately one-third of operational costs are covered by student tuition, with the remaining from community contributions and grants.
BrightStone does not rely on government funding. The community can support their work through donations to ensure the stability and growth of future programs and the Capital Campaign, and by serving as a volunteer to support programs, events, front desk operations, and more.
