- Robert Redford has sadly died at the age of 89. The iconic actor, who was also an Oscar-winning director and the founder of the Sundance Film Institute, passed away in his sleep in Provo, Utah, surrounded by loved ones. His publicist did not share his cause of death, the New York Times reports. Robert spent decades as a leading actor in Hollywood, known for films Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Sting, Three Days of the Condor, and All the President’s Men. He acted alongside Hollywood’s favorite leading ladies, including Jane Fonda in Barefoot in the Park, Barbra Streisand in The Way We Were, and Meryl Streep in Out of Africa. He also appeared in the Marvel franchise, starring as Alexander Pierce in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Avengers: Endgame. He won an Oscar for directing the film Ordinary People. Robert Redford was also passionate about supporting filmmakers and artists and founded the Sundance Institute before launching the Sundance Film Festival in 1984. He is also one of the iconic stars who does not yet have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Robert Redford is survived by his wife, daughters Shauna and Amy, and grandchildren.
