3. After more than 50 years, Southwest Airlines’ “bags fly free” policy has ended.
Now, the first checked bag costs $35, and the second $45.
However, Business Select/Choice Extra and A-List Preferred customers will receive two free checked bags, while A-List and Chase Rapid Reward credit card members will get one free checked bag. Southwest ditched the free checked bag policy after activist investors urged the company to improve finances. The airline has also recently started selling assigned seats to earn revenue.
