- The Voice is already looking ahead to season 28! NBC announced May 12 that Michael Bublé, Snoop Dogg, Niall Horan and Reba McEntire will all return to the series as coaches when the show returns for a new season in the fall. This marks Michael Bublé third season, making him one of the only artists in recent years to be a coach for more than two consecutive seasons. “This is the best job I’ve ever had. Going to work every day is a joy, and I’m so thrilled to be back for Season 28,” Bublé tells People. Michael Bublé, Snoop, Niall Horan and Reba will take a seat in the red chairs after John Legend, Adam Levine, Kelsea Ballerini and Bublé coached this season. Reba says she couldn’t sign on for this current season because of scheduling conflicts. Before we get to season 28, The Voice season 27 is stepping into the live shows beginning May 12 at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
- The FAA has partnered with five US schools to fast-track students to become air traffic controllers, as the country faces its worst shortage in 30 years. The University of North Dakota, the University of Oklahoma, the Vaughn College of Aeronautics and Technology in New York state, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Florida, and Tulsa Community College in Oklahoma now offer FAA Academy-equivalent air traffic control training collegiate programs. While its a significant step to address the shortage, new hires will still face working with failing air traffic control tech until the Department of Transportation provides a new system in 2028.
- The airline industry may be a bit of a mess right now, but at least food flights are taking off. On restaurant menus across the country and beyond, diners are seeing double. Or triple. Or even, as in the case at the nine-course “taco experience”. And that’s thanks to the exploding trend of food flights. While beverage flights have long been a draw at breweries and wine bars, the idea of riffing on different presentations of a single ingredient or format is now proving a popular way for chefs to get creative with a favorite dish. In 2024, egg flights went viral as home cooks tried out various spins on traditional deviled eggs. We’ve seen a local example at Postino in 12south with toast flights. “We’re seeing restaurants experiment with solutions to combat tighter margins and increased competition,” says Ming-Tai Huh, head of food and beverage at Square. “Businesses need to get creative with their menus and their marketing to bring more people in. With this trend, restaurants are creating a fun and novel opportunity for consumers to taste more of the menu — and maybe find something they’ll really love and come back for again and again. And with these flights being social media-friendly, you can grow interest in your business as customers see your eye-catching specials across platforms.”
