One of the oldest trees in our country’s history is getting a new purpose.
A large, Red Oak Tree in Madison is believed to be about 250 years old, meaning it started growing somewhere around the time that the Declaration of Independence was written in 1776, before Tennessee even became a state. Unfortunately, that tree was knocked down when the storms hit earlier this month, but it’s getting new life thanks to a local woodworker named Tad Derrickson.
Tad has been working hard over the last few years to repurpose local trees and plans to do the same with the wood from this red oak, saying maybe he’ll turn it into a big dining room table. Read more about it and see the tree HERE
