With the weather warming up, you may start to see more bugs flying around and living their best lives.
However, if you see this one, you should smash it and then report it. The Spotted Lanternfly is expected to be back this season, as it’s spread to 14 states in the last decade, Tennessee being one of the newest. These bugs look cute at their nymph stages when they’re black with white spots and red with white spots, but then they turn into jumping gray blobs that are detrimental to more than 70 species of plants.
The Natural Areas Division wants residents to report the Lanternflies if you see them, and as always, take no mercy.. smash them.
