- A tiktoker discovered a hack to getting airline customer service to work with you on fee reimbursements. TikToker Discovers The ULTIMATE Customer Service Hack โฆ TikToker Ashley Bez explains how she was able to get her boyfriendโs non-refundable flight changed after she was told no by several customer service agents. She called and said that she was an assistant, rather than the manโs girlfriend. The airline instantly worked with her and got the flight changed. Hereโs the transcript from her call: Ashley Bez: โCustomer service reps have a bias that you can totally use to your advantage. So I discovered it because I was an assistant for so many years. Iโve had to call customer service on behalf of other people, and they treat you differently based on who you are in relation to the person that youโre calling for. Like, thatโs the bias. So Iโll give you an example. My boyfriend needed a flight changed. It was a non-refundable flight. I was like, โOh, Iโve gotten a non-refundable flight changed. I can do this.โ So I called the airline. I gave them all the numbers. They were like, โWell, who are you in relation to this person?โ I was like, โOh, Iโm his girlfriend.โ They wanted nothing to do with me. They were like, โSorry, itโs non-refundable.โ I was like, โOh my God, why didnโt I say wife?โ I called back again, gave them the numbers. I said, โWife.โ They still said, โIโm sorry, itโs not refundable.โ So I called back one more time and I was like, โIโm his assistant.โ Not only did I get the flight changed, they gave him a slightly better seat. And I think that itโs a subconscious bias because once you say assistant, theyโre like, โOh, that personโs job is on the lineโ and theyโre way more likely to help you. If you have to get something really big or really important done and you need to call customer service, make up a name, pretend you are your own assistant, and I promise you they are way more likely to help.โ
