Tate McRae‘s new video for her song “Sports car” is her sexiest yet — in fact, it’s so sexy that she spends the entire video watching herself.
In the video, Tate, hidden behind a long coat with her face disguised, enters a series of viewing booths to watch various versions of herself, wearing different outfits as they dance and writhe through different scenarios: standing next to a horse, submerged in a tank of water, encased in white fabric, dancing on chairs and so on.
“making this video was such a dream,” she wrote on Instagram. “So blessed to work with such incredibly talented people and play all day; 12 looks in 1 day.”
Tate tells Vogue, “There was so much discomfort with this video. I wore wigs for the first time, which was a risk for me because I’ve always had my hair and my look.” She adds, “In some shots I was wearing six to eight inch platform heels where I was like this is actually impossible to stand in. I’m such a sneakerhead so for me to walk around in heels is an issue.”
As for the “watcher” character she plays, Tate tells Vogue, “I feel like it was such an exciting thing for me to do, to be able to sit in the chair in the opening and be the watcher. Being in my position, I’m opening the doors for everyone to judge and watch me and put out their opinion of me.”
“This video felt like I was taking back control and owning it, because this time I get to judge myself and see the different sides of me first,” she adds. “You can do it later, but I get to do it first.”
Tate’s new album, So Close To What, is out Feb. 21.
