Lola Young‘s song “Messy” is taking off in the U.S. thanks to the fact that it’s gone viral on TikTok. But in the U.K., where she’s from, it’s already topped the chart.
“Messy” has hit #1 on the U.K.’s Official Singles Chart, and the London native tells OfficialCharts.com, “It’s amazing, this feels like the right time! Thank you, I Love you all so much!”
She adds, “Thank you for being there for me, supporting me. If you’ve been there from the beginning, or if you’ve just come along, enjoy this journey and I’ll keep making bangers for you lot!”
Regarding “Messy,” she adds that its success “wasn’t expected, but it’s definitely a song I really believed in.” She adds, “It’s a song that I wrote on my own, and it feels really special. We all kind of knew it was special, but we didn’t think it’d be this big!”
On her Instagram, Lola posted a graphic trumpeting her #1 status and added, “We f******* did it. We f****** did it.”
Lola, whose current album is called This Wasn’t Meant For You Anyway, will play Coachella in April.
