As A Great Big World once sang, “This is the new year,” and a new year means new music.
The duo, who released a Christmas single with Pentatonix over the holidays, has now put out a song called “then there were sparks.” It’ll be included on an EP of the same name, due out Feb. 21. The five-song collection will also feature another new song, “Go On,” as well as three reimagined versions of their hit “Say Something,” to celebrate that song’s 10th anniversary.
In a statement, A Great Big World’s Ian Axel said, “Over the last few years, I had found myself gradually singing and performing less. And as time passed, I just became more and more afraid of it. I kept making excuses for myself, and I felt like I was losing my ability to dream. I knew there was still this fire, or this spark within me that I had been ignoring, and it needed nurturing.”
“So for me, this song is about re-discovering myself as an artist, and the magic that comes when you tap into your heart to create something new.”
On Feb. 27, A Great Big World will begin an intimate mini tour, visiting City Wineries in Boston, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C. and New York. Tickets go on sale Jan. 17 via agreatbigworld.com.
