A new federal rule says that low-income families will no longer be charged a fee when adding funds into their kids’ school lunch accounts. As of now, it will only be available to students on free and reduced lunch programs and won’t go into effect until the 2027/28 school year.
It also won’t apply to Metro Public Schools because they have a USDA program and other funding, but for people in Wilson County, for example, this could be huge since parents pay a 3.5% fee. Details HERE
