New year, new me… and by that I mean this is the year I officially become the ~book girly~ I was always meant to be (aka the girl I was ages 5-15) LOL! I have made basically 1 goal each year, for the past 3 (at minimum)… Read 12 Books! Haven’t even read more than 1 book in the past 3 years… SO this year, I am setting my sights lower… 10 BOOKS!
AND THIS IS THE YEAR I AM REALLY GONNA DO IT!!!
Let’s do it together! It’s more fun when you can share your love (or disdain, haha) for a book with someone else! Whether you’re encouraging them to read it next or reading it at the same time and you can discuss as you go, it’s like a little mini book club!
Please recommend your faves, I’d love to check them out!! You can comment them here or email them to me: karyce.garcia@mwcradio.com
I’m going to do the same!! I will add each book I read to this blog, give it a star rating (out of 5), and give my honest opinions!!! I PROMISE there will NEVER be spoilers!!
HERE WE GO 🙂
- The Woman In Me, Britney Spears – 5/5 Stars
I loved the “diary” feel of this memoir because I think it really fits Britney’s vibe!! I have been a fan of hers longer than I’ve really been a fan of anyone or anything, so being able to hear something that truly felt like it came from HER PERSPECTIVE was refreshing and exactly what I wanted out of reading this!! I definitely recommend it, especially if you are a Britney fan!!! - Reminders of Him, Colleen Hoover – 4/5 Stars
Somewhat predictable, but I genuinely enjoyed the story and characters!! It was also enjoyable for me because it was such a quick, easy read. The story switches POV every chapter which was really fun and interesting to hear both sides of the story the whole time. Would definitely recommend this one!! - Verity, Colleen Hoover – 4.5/5 Stars
Overall, I REALLY enjoyed this book!! I sped through it in a day, absolutely couldn’t put it down! I do think I wanted the twist at the end to be even crazier than it was, especially after how hyped this book was. BUT, I did like it a lot! There was definitely something sort of haunting about it all, making me wish there was more to come or more to know from another perspective. I’ve thought about that for over a week now, so it clearly had me in a tighter hold than I even realized!!! That being said, I kind of understand why it had the twist it did… What the heck was true? Who was crazy… or crazIEST?? - Final Girls, Riley Sager – 3/5 Stars
I reaaaaaalllyyy wanted to love this book!!!! It seemed right up my alley and like an easy, quick read. It kind of wasn’t… I struggled to get into it and when it was over, I was overall dissatisfied. First of all, the twists were… weird? They just didn’t hit for me. It felt like there were several ideas for how it could go, and then the author just decided to toss them ALL in. It felt a little messy and kind of random. Maybe it was that the “twists” leading up to the BIG “twist” ended up just watering the BIG one down?
Second, this was the slowest of all burns. There was FINALLY one point in the book – about 200 pages in, ugh – where I felt invested and couldn’t put it down… that fizzled out after max 50 pages and I was back to questioning why things were going in the direction they were. Ultimately, it probably could’ve been 100 pages shorter. Maybe that would have made it feel more thrilling. I wouldn’t have had as much time to sit there feeling like something was missing.I know it sounds like I hated it, I promise I didn’t. I just didn’t love it how I wanted to which made it disappointing. I’m not saying others wouldn’t enjoy it, but I don’t know that I’d recommend it either. - The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, Taylor Jenkins Reid – 5/5 Stars
OBSESSED. This is absolutely one of my new favorite books!!! It gave me the same feeling I had when I read Gatsby, which is my #1 favorite of all time! Just the glam of it and the way it transported me to a time of the past I never got to witness. Also similar to Gatsby, it left me feeling envious of the lifestyle and simultaneously relieved I don’t have to endure the pressures and tragedies of it.
I can’t wait to re-read this book over and over just to immerse myself into the story again! I know I’m definitely late to the hype train, but I can’t wait to recommend it to everyone!!!

**Note: I LOVE fantasy when I’m watching a tv show or movie, but I don’t necessarily love reading it. All the names, places, lore, etc I just get too confused LOL! Maybe I’ll get into it eventually, but don’t feel offended if I never take those recommendations. If said book ever gets turned into a show or movie, I’ll watch it right away… PROMISE 😉
