Not sure what you love about Thanksgiving dinner, but besides being with family and friends it’s all that yummy food for me. You know, the kind of food you just want to lay down and take a nap after eating? Of course, you’ve got the turkey and all, but it’s the sides that I get excited about, starting with sweet potato casserole. Yummy! Now I can go either way on whether they have marshmallows on top or not, but that dish is usually the first thing I look for when checking out a big Thanksgiving spread. One thing I avoid though is canned cranberry sauce, but I have members of family who won’t even show up if it’s not on the menu (I’ll never get it). And when it comes to all those sides, it’s probably wise that we only have that huge meal once a year as apparently a lot of what we like to eat at this time of year isn’t exactly healthy. As a matter of fact, the Daily Meal is out with a full list of the 14 most unhealthy Thanksgiving sides, and it stacks up like this:
Sweet potato casserole*
Green bean casserole*
Ambrosia salad
Jell-O salad
Dinner rolls*
Mashed potatoes*
Potatoes au gratin
Macaroni and cheese*
Canned cranberry sauce
Candied yams*
Sausage stuffing
Turkey Gravy*
Cornbread*
Pecan Pie*
I put an * by all my favorite sides and couldn’t care less how “unhealthy” they are haha. What’s your favorite side dish for Thanksgiving? Is it healthy? Do you try and make a healthier version? Or are you like me and don’t have a care in the world?! Be sure to leave your comments below, as I love hearing from you. And thanks for stopping by my little slice of the internet! – Butter
