One of the favorite treats of the Mardi Gras is the King Cake, a sweet treat made of twisted bread similar to challah, and covered with sugar colored with the typical Mardi Gras colors: purple, green and gold. There is alway a baby figurine or a bean embedded for one lucky person to find. The finder, depending on who you talk to, becomes the provider of next year’s King Cake, or has a year of good luck to look forward to.
