JOHN MCCAIN SAYS TIME TO RESOLVE DIFFERENCES AND GET MILITARY DEATH BENEFITS BACK
Here's where the partial government shutdown gets many people's blood boiling: now we're hearing that compensation payments for close to four million disabled veterans won't go out next month if the shutdown lasts, and we're already seeing death benefits for soldiers suspended because of the shutdown.
The nation's Veterans Affairs Secretary also says the shutdown is hurting their efforts to reduce the backlog of disability claims.
PRESIDENT'S SHUTDOWN SPEECH
President Obama is accusing House Republicans of holding the country hostage as the government shutdown drags on. In a White House news conference yesterday, the President said he is willing to negotiate with House Republicans but not until they agree to end the shutdown and raise the federal debt ceiling. DEATH BENEFITS FOR FALLEN SOLDIERS ON HOLD

FRANKLIN DRIVER CITED IN ROAD RAGE CASE
If I told you a driver was ticketed this week for road rage, what mental PICTURE do you have of that person? If you said a young adult male, you're right. Statistically, young men are most likely to road rage, with more than HALF of them saying they feel road rage EVERY DAY and men more likely than women to ACT on it by doing something aggressive or hostile. Monday night near Franklin, police pulled over 23 year old Clint Baker for driving 80 miles an hour, in a 40 mile an hour zone, and whipping in and out of lanes, he admitted he, and his brother who was his passenger, were doing it because they were angry at someone, and road raging. Baker said the weapon other drivers reported seeing may have been his cellphone.
GET FREE SMOKE DETECTOR IF YOU LIVE IN DAVIDSON COUNTY
As the temperatures outside have gotten colder, we've already started seeing heater-related house fires. Two home fires so far this week. Sometimes thermostats kick heaters on when the temperature drops, and over the summer someone's put something up against it, and it catches fire. Or, there's no working smoke detector. One local man this week was just plain lucky he woke up when the fire made his arm hot, because he didn’t have a working smoke detector. If you live in Davidson county and need one, you can get one free, while supplies last. You can get a free smoke detector for your family if you live in Davidson County. Just stop by the Nashville Fire Department headquarters at 63 Hermitage Ave. during business hours. For more information, call 615-862-5282.
