FORGIVE THE GROUNDHOG

The Ohio prosecutor who filed a criminal indictment against Punxutawney Phil for erroneously predicting an early spring, is considering a pardon for the groundhog. That's because Phil's handler, Bill Deeley, confessed to misreading the animal's actual prediction. "I'll be the fall guy. It's not Phil's fault," Deeley said. Butler County, Ohio, prosecutor Mike Moser said, considering the confession, he may issue a full pardon.

FULL PLANES

If the plane seems more crowded than it used it, it actually is. The rate for filled seats has been on the rise for several years as airlines cut seat capacity while demand has risen. The nation's airlines set a new record last year for the percentage of seats : an average rate of 82.8%.

SHARK COPS

Sounds like a bad cable TV show: Shark Cops. In Palm Peach, Florida. A man wanted for stabbing a couple of people was cornered on the beach by the police. The suspect was standing waist-deep in the ocean, threatening to kill himself. After a four hour stand-off, the man finally surrendered. It wasn't just the cops. A number of sharks were spotted swinning offshore.

OKLAHOMA EARTHQUAKE CAUSE

A team of scientists have determined that the unusual and 5.6-magnitude quake that shook Oklahoma in 2011 was probably caused when oil drilling waste was pushed deep underground. That would make it the most powerful quake to be blamed on deep injections of wastewater, according to a study in the journal Geology. The waste was from" traditional" drilling, not fracking.
