SATURDAY IS A YEAR ANNIVERSARY FOR SANDY HOOK SHOOTING
This Saturday marks one year since the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting massacre in Newtown, Connecticut and donations have poured in to help the families of those who lost loved ones.  Charities have collected 28-million-dollars since the attack last December.  

SCHOOLS REOPEN TODAY
Although it's cold outside, there's patchy, very thick fog, and whatever water was on the ground overnight, froze again, schools are open today. No school closings. Bus drivers are back on the roads, and kids and teachers are back in class.

HEALTH: AMERICANS GETTING HEALTHIER
Americans are getting healthier. Or, at least, less UNhealthy. The annual "America's Health Rankings" report says we've made improvements in some of the biggest problem areas: for the first time in 15 YEARS the obesity rate is leveling off, fewer of us are smoking and more of us are putting a little activity in our lives.

BUDGET DEAL IN THE WORKS
A bipartisan budget deal is being unveiled, that would fund the federal government for two years. If both the House and Senate approve it, we won't have another government shutdown next month. The deal reportedly reduces the deficit without raising taxes. 

FIRST WOMAN CEO OF GM
For the first time, a woman will serve as the CEO of a global automaker. Mary Barra will take the lead next month when the current CEO of GM retires. She's 51, and has worked for the company for 33 years. She's probably like, "IT's about TIME!"   

JACKPOT IN MEGA MILLIONS UP TO 400 MILLION
The fourth largest jackpot in Mega Millions history is getting bigger.  No one matched all six numbers last night, so the new jackpot should be worth at least 400-million on Friday night. 

IT'S TWO WEEKS TILL CHRISTMAS
That money would come in handy. Today is TWO WEEKS till Christmas day.

NEW NASHVILLE BALLPARK GETS APPROVAL
The new ballpark for the Nashville Sounds has been approved by Metro Council. Now, the plan kicks in. Construction is supposed to start at Sulphur Dell next month, and wrap up in time for the 2015 season.

TN WOMAN CHARGED WITH MURDERING SLEEPING HUSBAND
A west Tennessee woman has been charged with reckless homicide and aggravated assault, in the death of her husband. 43 year old Angela Brewer says she thought shye heard an intruder, loaded the shotgun, then laid it on the bed ... and that it went off when she leaned over to wake him. He was killed, she's in jail.

FIREFIGHTERS SAY CHECK SMOKE DETECTORS
This time of year can be fun, or...it can be deadly. This is a MAJOR time of year for house fires. We've already had a bunch of them. Franklin Fire Marshall Andy King says, it's often because we've left CANDLES unattended. Even worse, King says most people... AFTER A FIRE... figure out what they SHOULD HAVE DONE.But he says for most people fires are a once-in-a-lifetime event so it's too late to plan, afterwards.
King says as well as checking your smoke alarms, you should also make sure your house has a fire extinguisher and that everybody knows where it is and how to use it.

BILLY GRAHAM HEALTH
The Rev. Billy Graham's son is asking for prayers for his father. Franklin Graham says his dad, who turned 95 last month, is extremely weak.

NEW SICKWEATHER APP
If you want to give yourself a better chance of staying healthy, there's a new app called Sickweather, that sends you an alert when you enter a so-called Sick zone. It gathers information from social media, and is so accurate it reportedly pinpointed where the flu was starting last year ahead of the CDC. Sickweather is a free download in the Health & Fitness category in the Apple App Store, or on itunes.

CHRISTMAS SPECIALS ON TV TONIGHT:
KELLY CLARKSON/DUCK DYNASTY
There are a couple of Christmas specials on TV tonight: Kelly Clarkson's "A cautionary Christmas Music Tale" with superstar singers, as well as Robin Williams; Whoopi Goldberg and William Shatner.  
And the Duck Dynasty Christmas Special is tonight on A & E. I don't wanna spoil it, but Christmas shopping might involve a shotgun. It's called, "O Little Town of West Monroe."

FAMILY OF SIX SURVIVES BEING STRANDED IN WILDERNESS
Authorities are crediting the father of a Nevada family of six for making the right moves and helping keep the family alive while they were lost in the wilderness, in the freezing cold.  James Glanton, his wife and four children were stranded for days when their jeep was wrecked, and they had to take shelter at an abandoned mining camp. Rescuers found them yesterday.

FACEBOOK TRENDS REPORT
Facebook is out with its 2013 trends report. What was hot online? Pope Francis. He was the most talked about topic in the world, and the Super Bowl was the most talked about topic in the United States.

POPE FRANCIS TIME MAGAZINE'S PERSON OF THE YEAR
Pope Francis has just been named "Time" magazine's Person of the Year. The magazine credited the Pope for changing the tone and perception of the Catholic Church.  NSA leaker and international fugitive Edward Snowden earned the runner up spot. 

DOLLAR GENERAL'S CIGARETTE ADD
Dollar General stores started selling tobacco a year ago, and it's been really good for business. Sales are up 10 percent from last year, as people who come in for smokes, have started tossing other things into their buggies as well.

HEALTH: MEDITATION LEADS TO GENETIC CHANGES 
Doctors have known for a long time that meditation improves your health. But now, they say people who meditate a lot, every day, actually show changes in their GENETICS. The meditation reduces the levels of genes that lead to inflammation, which is a basic cause for a lot of pain and damage to our bodies. (The study was conducted by scientists from the University of Wisconsin and the Institute of Biomedical Research of Barcelona, Spain.)

ACA AWARD WINNERS FROM LAST NIGHT
The fan-voted American Country Awards were last night. Luke Bryan was named artist of the year, and the group Florida Georgia Line won the most: six awards. Tim McGraw, Taylor Swift and Keith Urban also raked in a few more.
