CHILD SAFETY SEAT INSPECTIONS THIS WEEK
There are free child safety seat inspections at locations around Davidson county all this week.. including the Metro Nashville Police Department. you can get the cil list can be found at www.nhtsa.gov.

WASHINGTON NAVY YARD SHOOTING
Authorities conducting the investigation into the deadly shootings at the Washington Navy Yard are confirming the man believed to have caused the slayings had a criminal past. Aaron Alexis was arrested in 2010 by Fort Worth police for firing a weapon within city limits, and had been arrested in 2004 for shooting the tires of another man's vehicle. The 34-year-old had also been discharged from the Navy Reserve in 2011 because of misconduct issues.  He's accused of killing 12 people before being shot to death yesterday morning.

COLORADO LATEST
At least eight people are dead and more than 16-hundred homes are in ruins due to torrential rains in Colorado.  The flood zone stretches across 17 Colorado counties, an area nearly the size of Delaware.  Emergency officials say nearly 12-thousand people have been evacuated since last week.   Air rescue operations are the largest in the U.S. since 2005's Hurricane Katrina.

CDC WARNING ABOUT DRUG-RESISTANT BACTERIA
If we don't get drug-resistant bacteria under control we could be looking at infections that sweep through the population, and are essentially untreatable. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is warning of "potentially catastrophic consequences" over the threat of antibiotic-resistant infections, saying we need to get them under control fast. (Drug-resistant bacteria already kills an estimated 23-thousand Americans each year.)
( In its report, the agency ranks each threat as "urgent," "serious" or "concerning."  It warns that if the trend goes unchecked, some infections could become essentially untreatable.)

10% OF HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS EXTREME BINGE DRINK
We're not doing so well on teaching our kids about booze. A new study shows one-in-ten high school seniors admits to extreme binge drinking. That's putting away ten or more drinks in a row.  And one in FIVE high school students binge drink...meaning more than four drinks in two hours. (The study also found boys were almost twice as likely to binge drink as girls and that white students are more than three times as likely to binge drink than black students.  The study is found in the "Journal of the American Medical Association Pediatrics.")

KIDS EATING HEALTHIER, BMI NOT GOING UP
There's some good news in the war against childhood obesity. A new study finds kids are eating healthier, watching less TV and may be starting to lose weight.  Researchers found no significant change in BMI between 2006 and 2010, suggesting the obesity trend.. for KIDS... may be leveling off.

DANCING WITH THE STARS HAS STARTED. BEST AND WORST ARE:
The 17th season of "Dancing With The Stars" is underway. With contestants as young as 24 and as old as 74... it's quite a range. Several of the celebrities got standing ovations, including Valerie Harper, the 74-year-old "Rhoda" actress who was diagnosed earlier this year with terminal cancer.

DANCING WITH THE STARS COMPETITION WITH NEWS 2 AND MIX MORNING SHOW
The Mix Morning Show has a friendly competition going with News 2, and we've each chosen our dancing with the stars teams ( like in fantasy football).  They have Keyshawn Johnson, Elizabeth Berkley and Brant Dougherty, we have Corbin Bleu, Glee star Amber Riley, Valerie Harper and Bill Nye the science guy. He didn't do too well last night. He got the lowest score of 14 points, though Carrie Ann Inaba called him the HEART of the show, and he was a crowd favorite. The highest score, 27 out of 30, went to "Glee" star Amber Riley, for her Cha Cha with Derek Hough. 

JENNIFER LOPEZ SUPPORTS LEAH REMINI AT DWTS
Jennifer Lopez is showing support for an old friend.  The superstar made an appearance on Monday's "Dancing With The Stars" premiere to cheer on her longtime friend Leah Remini.  The former "King of Queens" actress was the second star to take the dance floor, saying that her two goals were to "lose weight" and "not look silly."  Lopez was among the audience as Leah danced the foxtrot with her partner Tony Dovolani, and received a strong 21 points from the judges. J.Lo was reportedly seen wiping away a tear after Remini's dance. Leah has made headlines recently after her public split from the Church of Scientology.  Lopez tweeted on Monday that she "couldn't be more proud" of her friend.

FEDERAL RESERVE OFFICIALS MEET THIS WEEK
Federal Reserve officials will deal with a triple-threat to the economy when they meet today and tomorrow.  Rising U.S. interest rates, unsettling events overseas and more battles on the budget front are on their plate.

FORMER STATE BUILDING BEING ON CHARLOTTE AVENUE WILL BE DEMOLISHED
Some local people are really happy. A building on Charlotte Avenue that's been a broken down eyesore for years, is finally being demolished. The old state highways and public works building was sold last week and is being torn down to make way for an office complex. 

DWAYNE JOHNSON AS THE FALL GUY
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has his next project lined up. The wrestler turned actor says he'll star in the movie remake of the 1980s Lee Majors TV series, "The Fall Guy."

"THE CONTRIBUTOR" USING DONATIONS
The executive director of "The Contributor" says donations are helping them keep the local paper printing into next month. The Contributor helps homeless and formerly homeless people earn money by selling copies on street corners. 

MILEY CYRUS, LIAM HEMSWORTH CALL OFF ENGAGEMENT
Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth have called it quits.  Reps for both stars say their engagement is off. Oh, and Miley's commented about her recent behavior that so many are criticizing... she says she worked and had to be very grown-up as a child, now she's an adult... and gets to act like a kid.

BEYONCE' DRAGGED OFF STAGE BY FAN IN BRAZIL
Beyonce was nearly dragged off the stage by an overzealous fan in Brazil. She leaned down to greet them, someone pulled her down, her security pulled her back up...and while this tug of war was going on... Beyonce kept singing ... barely missing a beat. She said to the over-eager fan, "Nice to meet you, I love you too."

SCARY CLOWN TERRIFIES TOWN

A scary clown with red hair and white face paint has been stalking the streets of Northampton, England. Not saying anything, just showing up,sometimes holding balloons or flowers. Standing there. Looking at you. Some people think it's funny, others are creeped out and scared, and residents are posting on both sides of that fence, on the Facebook page, Spot Northampton's Clown. It already has more than 40 thousand likes in less than a week.

ARTISTS ADDED TO JONES TRIBUTE CONCERT
More names are being added to the George Jones tribute concert.  George Strait, Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert, Eric Church, Reba McEntire and Alabama are the latest artists to join the sold-out show.  The November 22nd concert was supposed to be Jones' final concert, but turned into a tribute show when he died in April. 

PINK NAMED BILLBOARD'S WOMAN OF THE YEAR
ink is raising her glass to being named this year's Woman Of The Year by "Billboard."  The singer said in a statement that she's had an "incredible year" and thanked fans, radio and her many collaborators for "sticking by her." 

MADONNA HINTS AT NEW ALBUM
Madonna has hinted at a new album for next year. In a question-and-answer session with fans on the social news site Reddit, she said, "there might be" an album coming in 2014, and that her "creative juices are flowing." 

ELTON JOHN EXPRESSES CONCERN FOR MILEY CYRUS, LADY GAGA 
Elton John is calling Miley Cyrus "a meltdown waiting to happen."  The rocker tells "The Australian" sees trouble ahead for controversial pop star, which he laments because she's "so young."  But he admits Cyrus has "two records in the top 20, so who's going to stop her?"  Elton says he's also becoming concerned for Lady Gaga.  He says he'd "like to be able to talk to her right now," but "can't get through to her. And there are times when you have to listen."  Elton explains that "when your persona begins to take over your music and becomes more important, you enter a dangerous place."  He adds that it's also "dangerous" to have "people around you who don't question you."

NEW ZEALAND RADIO STATION OFFERS BIEBER ESCAPE AS PRIZE
There are plenty of Justin Bieber fans who'd love to win tickets to one of the pop star's concerts, but one New Zealand radio station is trying to help people do the exact opposite. They're offering a Bieber escape plan. When Bieber's tour hits there next month, the winner gets a pair of plane tickets out of the country... to Australia, along with two nights' accomodation, some cash and what they call, "some decent rock music" to restore your faith in music.

COSTA CONCORDIA UPRIGHT
Engineers are celebrating successfully righting the Costa Concordia, but the salvage operation -- the largest in recorded history -- is far from finished.  After 19 hours, the Italian cruise ship was brought upright after spending 20 months lying on its side off the coast of Tuscany.
