MALL SHOOTER DEAD
The 20-year-old man police believe opened fire last night inside of one of the biggest shopping centers in New Jersey has been found dead. He shot at least six rounds from a rifle, seemingly at random, causing a mall lockdown, with thousands of people, terrified, running from the gunfire. Fortunately, no one was hit. More than 100 shoppers were still hiding inside stores early Tuesday morning, unsure of whether they could safely come out. Officers worked to evacuate each store. Shoop, 20, was known by local law enforcement. He had a history of drug use and abuse.
The owner of a pizza shop where Shoop has been working for about a year told CNN that the young man has been a good, trustworthy worker. Dod Geges, owner of Victor's Pizza Shop, describes Shoop as a nice, quiet guy.
But in the last two weeks, "something was off" about Shoop, Geges said, adding that he "wasn't his usual self."
The gunman then shot himself, and his body was found a few hours later.

GIRL WHOSE BODY FOUND IN TRASH BIN TRIED TO RUN AWAY
A 10-year-old Georgia girl whose malnourished body was found, partially burned in a suburban Atlanta trash bin... had tried to get help for years, but the adults around her, failed her. The child tried to run away from home, she went to her school nurse with bruises and said she was afraid to go home, and her grandmother had told authorities she thought the child was being abused, but she wasn't sure. That all started at least four years ago. Now, the Georgia girl has been found dead, and her father and stepmother are in jail, without bond, charged with murder.
Local child safety officials say If you know a child you believe is being abused, please report it. And if nothing happens, report it again. A child's life could depend upon it.

BABIES CAN BE 'NEITHER' SEX ON BIRTH CERTIFICATE
A new law makes Germany the first European country to allow babies with characteristics of both sexes to be registered by their parents as neither male nor female. Up until now, parents had to make a quick choice, and usually had surgery done on the child to reflect that choice. The German Ethics Council, an advisory group, had urged the change to take the pressure off parents to make a hasty decision and possibly commit to surgery immediately after birth. The council had argued, among other things, that many people born with both sex characteristics who were operated on as children say they wouldn't have consented to the surgery. An estimated one in 2,000 children born each year is neither boy nor girl -- they are intersex, part of a group of about 60 conditions that fall under the diagnosis of disorders of sexual development, an umbrella term for those with atypical chromosomes, gonads (ovaries or testes), or unusually developed genitalia.
