AFGHAN TROOPS IN CHARGE OF SECURITY FOR THEIR OWN COUNTRY
Afghan troops are now in charge of security across their own country. NATO-led forces have now turned over control for the last 95 districts in Afghanistan... where troops from the U.S. and other countries had been in charge since 2001. They started turning over security control three years ago.
BLACK FOREST FIRE NEARING CONTAINMENT
Firefighters are making progress in fighting Colorado's Black Forest Fire. They say they have it 75-percent contained.
LESS THAN 400 TICKETS LEFT FOR SPECIAL MUSIC CITY TRAIN JULY 4TH
If you want to see the July 4th fireworks in downtown Nashville, but don't want to drive, there are still some tickets left for the Music City Star train that'll take you from Lebanon, Martha, Mt. Juliet, Donelson or Hermitage to Riverfront Park, and then back, after the fireworks. But, there were less than 400 tickets as of yesterday (Monday), and they usually sell out. You can get them online at www.musiccitystar.org or www.nashvillemta.org. The roundtrip tickets cost 12 bucks.

44 YEAR-OLD MAN TARGETING UNDERAGED GIRLS ONLINE
You should have your teenaged girl take a look at the photo you'll see at the link above. Tell her, "THIS is who you could be talking to when you think you're flirting with some cute young guy." A 44-year-old Nashville man, Stephen Creasy, was caught posing as a 24 year old and targeting girls as young as 11 online, talking them into things they should NEVER be doing. The website he was on is www.tagged.com, though there are surely predators just like him on other social networking sites. (Creasy faces nine charges, including solicitation of statutory rape which is a felony. )
'SESAME STREET' CREATES FIRST MUPPET TO HAVE A PARENT IN JAIL
The fuzzy Muppets from "Sesame Street" have helped kids deal with subjects including hunger, bullying, divorce and military deployment. Now, since 1 in 28 children in the U.S. has a parent behind bars, Sesame Street has created a new character to help relate: Alex, a Muppet with a dad in jail.

FAMILY OF LATE GERMANTOWN CAFÉ CHEF IS SUING
The family of the Germantown Cafe chef who died after becoming locked in his restaurant's walk-in cooler a year ago, is now suing. Jay Luther's mother and sisters want ten million dollars in damages from the cooler company, the company that delivered the dry ice, the security company and the Metro Nashville Police Department, for the string of events that led to his death.
The 47 year old died from dry ice fumes. He hit an alarm from inside the cooler and Metro police showed up but blamed the alarm on a power outage. Read the original story HERE
ATLANTA DJS FIRED AFTER MAKING FUN OF FORMER PLAYER WITH ALS
Three Atlanta sports radio announcers have been fired for making fun of former New Orleans Saints player Steve Gleason, who is battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS, a degenerative disease that attacks motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord, atrophying the muscles and eventually causing paralysis.
The three show hosts (Nick Cellini, Steak Shapiro and Chris Dimino), were first suspended, then fired later in the day.
Gleason didn’t make a statement…. The director of his foundation, Team Gleason, said there was no need to take time away from the important things Steve was accomplishing with his team.
HEALTH CARE COST INCREASE LESS NEXT YEAR THAN A DECADE AGO
Next year's projected increase in health care costs will be substantially less than the annual increases ten years ago. A report from the health research division of PricewaterhouseCoopers estimates health care costs will go up six-point-five percent in 2014. That's when the Affordable Care Act will be fully implemented.
NASA 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF FIRST WOMAN IN SPACE
NASA is celebrating the 30th anniversary of America's first woman in space. Sally Ride's launch was June 18th, 1983 aboard Space Shuttle Challenger. It was just the seventh flight of the shuttle program. You can read more about it at www.nasa.gov
FBI AND HOFFA
One of the most famous cold cases in history COULD be closer to being solved. Close to 40 years ago, there was this union leader named Jimmy Hoffa who went missing in Michigan, and it was thought that maybe mobsters did him in. His body was never found. Now, federal agents have a tip he may be buried on a plot of land owned by a suspected former crime boss. (It should be noted, though, that 85 year old Tony Zerilli, the one who says Hoffa was buried on the property in 1975, is writing a book and could use the publicity. )
STREISAND HONORED AND SPEAKING OUT FOR WOMEN
Barbra Streisand has received an honorary degree from Hebrew University of Jerusalem. At the ceremony in Israel, Streisand told the audience it's distressing to read of women there being forced to sit in the back of the bus, and not being allowed to sing in public. Streisand said "human dignity means giving all people a voice.
NHL STANLEY CUP SO FAR
The Boston Bruins have moved another step closer to the NHL's Stanley Cup, after beating Chicago last night. They now have a two games to one lead, and game four is tomorrow (Wed) night in Boston.
HEALTH: CONCUSSIONS CAUSE ALZHEIMER'S-LIKE DEGENERATION
A new study finds concussions can lead to brain degeneration similar to Alzheimer's dementia. That's important information because nearly 2 million people suffer concussions each year... and should know that's a possible side effect. The latest study is published in the journal "Radiology."
UNITED STATES AND RUSSIA READY TO SIGN NUCLEAR AGREEMENT
President Obama and Russian President Putin will sign an agreement to secure and destroying nuclear material to stop the spread of nuclear weapons. The new agreement will replace a 1992 deal that expired on June 17th.
MORE MOSQUITOS WITH WEST NILE COLLECTED IN DAVIDSON
More mosquitoes are testing positive for the West Nile virus.
The Metro Health Department says three additional batches collected from Davidson County have tested positive, bringing the total number of batches to nine. The department's Pest Management staff will place extra mosquito traps in the affected area this week, and will inspect standing water and apply larvicide if needed.
WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU'RE INFECTED WITH WEST NILE VIRUS?
Most people (about 80 percent) that are infected with WNV by the bite of an infected mosquito will have no symptoms and will not know they have been infected. Approximately 20 percent of the people that are infected may experience a range of flu-like symptoms which may include fever, headache, weakness, stiff neck, nausea, vomiting, muscle aches and pains, rash and in some cases diarrhea and sore throat. Less than 1 percent of people that are infected with WNV by the bite of an infected mosquito will develop severe illness. Persons over 50 years of age are at highest risk of developing the most severe form of the disease and persons over the age of 70 with other health problems are at greatest risk for death.
PENTAGON RELEASES PLANS FOR WOMEN TO JOIN ELITE COMBAT GROUPS
The Pentagon is expected to release plans today on how women can become part of elite combat groups like the Navy SEALs or Army Rangers, without lowering the units' rigorous standards. The military has gradually been opening up more jobs to women.
TEXAS MOM FIGHTS BACK, RUNS OVER CARJACKER
Don't mess with Texas moms! Dorothy Flugence was shopping at a CVS with her two little boys, but had left her van unlocked, and a carjacker was waiting inside when she got there. He threatened her with a knife, threatened her children, and told her to drive to an ATM. She crashed the car to throw him around, grabbed his knife and punched him, and when he tried to run away she ran over him with her van. She says she didn't mean to run him over, just stop him from going after someone else. Dorothy says when he tried to harm her children that man had, "messed with the wrong witch!"
15-YEAR-OLD BITTEN BY SHARK OFF TEXAS COAST
A 15-year-old boy is recovering after being bitten several times by a shark at a beach near Galveston, Texas, yesterday. The boy, who was in waist-deep water with his church group, has shark bite marks on his left leg and hand. Surfside Beach, where the attack happened, is about 65 miles south of Houston.
DONOR MATCHING RESCUE MISSION DONATIONS
An anonymous donor is challenging people to donate to the Nashville Rescue Mission. The mystery person is offering to match any money given to the mission, up to 150-thousand-dollars. The Nashville Rescue Mission is involved with helping the community's hungry and homeless. The mission's website is urging people to give, so they can provide twice as many meals and nights of shelter. For the donations to be matched, they must be made by the end of the month.
JURORS IN ZIMMERMAN CASE WILL REMAIN ANONYMOUS AFTER VERDICT
Jurors picked to hear the murder case against George Zimmerman will remain anonymous even after a verdict is handed down. The former central Florida neighborhood watchman is charged with second-degree murder for shooting to death an unarmed teenager last year. His attorneys will try to convince jurors he acted in self defense.
