WORLD AWAITS FIRST GLIMPSE OF ROYAL BABY
President Obama and the First Lady have offered their congratulations to Prince William and Duchess Kate on the birth of their new baby boy. Obama said the American people are pleased to join the UK in celebrating the birth of a young prince. The little boy's title is the Prince of Cambridge, though his name hasn't been announced, yet. TENNESSEE WORST STATE FOR DISTRACTED DRIVING
This is HORRIBLE NEWS! The National Safety Council says that Tennessee is the worst state in America when it comes to distracted driving. The NSC says 10.6 percent of the fatal crashes here were because of distracted driving. That's nearly 10 times the national average.
SOUTHWEST PLANE OUT OF NASHVILLE LOSES NOSE GEAR, SIX INJURED
At least six people are recovering from injuries after a Southwest Airlines plane out of Nashville lost its nose gear Monday at LaGuardia Airport in New York City. The flight crew was also taken to a hospital for observation, and the airport in New York is still trying to get back to normal.
SCIENTISTS AT OAK RIDGE, TN. DEVELOP SMART SMOKE DETECTOR
Scientists at Oak Ridge National Laboratory say they’ve developed a new kind of household smoke detector: that can tell the difference between a dangerous fire, and just steam or cooking smoke. The alarm detects temperature and other readings, and can sense some real fires even faster than conventional smoke alarms. So far they're not being produced by any company. Researchers think it'll keep people from disabling their smoke detectors when they go off because of cooking, then forgetting to put the battery back in. The National Fire Protection Association says two-out-of-three people who die in fires, could be saved with working alarms.
HEALTH: SKIPPING BREAKFAST LINKED TO HIGHER HEART ATTACK RISK
Make sure you have breakfast today. It really IS an important meal. Not only do breakfast eaters tend to weigh less and do better on congnitive skills, a new study finds skipping breakfast can increase your risk of having a heart attack by about a THIRD. Researchers studied 27-thousand men who were between the ages of 45 and 82. The study found that men who regularly skipped breakfast had a 27-percent higher chance of suffering a heart attack. The study is in the July 22nd issue of the journal "Circulation."
HEALTH: DECONGESTANTS LINKED TO BIRTH DEFECTS
Women who use decongestants during the first three months of pregnancy may be increasing their children's risk of birth defects. Researchers say some popular over-the-counter medications, including pill and nasal sprays, have been linked to a slight increase in rare birth defects of the digestive tract, ear, and heart. CIGARETTE SMOKERS EARN LESS
Smoking is costing you more than you knew. It's been found that cigarette smokers earn 18% less than workers who don't smoke. And it doesn't matter whether you smoke two ciggies or two packs.
BREASTFEEDING MIGHT REDUCE ADHD
Breastfeeding your baby could help protect the child against ADHD. Kids who were bottle-fed were found to be three times more likely to develop ADHD than those who were breast fed, in a recent study! ( A Tel Aviv University conducted a study of kids with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and kids without ADHD. Researchers aren't sure what causes the link, and want to continue the study with high risk kids starting from birth.)
HEALTH: TEEN BINGE EATING TIED TO SUICIDE RISK
Binge eating might be a sign of suicide risk in teenage girls. Researchers say they've found a link and urge parents, teachers and counselors to intervene if they learn of teens binge eating. (A study published in Prevention Science tracked the behavior of more than 300 girls over eleven years and found a connection between the eating disorder and suicidal thoughts. Depression and anxiety can often contribute to both binge eating and suicide.)
TN. LAWMAKER WANTS TUITION FREEZE, SALARY CUTS
A Tennessee lawmaker says he's drafting a bill to freeze college tuition and cut college coaches’ salaries. Republican Senator Jim Summerville says a 62-percent hike in tuition over the last ten years is outrageous.

OHIO CANCER FAKER GETS 9 MONTHS IN PRISON
An Ohio woman who faked cancer and took almost $9,000 in donations from her community has been sentenced to nine months in prison. Kimberlie Gustwiller admitted that she was just scamming people to pay for her drugs, because she was addicted at the time. The judge told her he wished he could give her a longer sentence, and ordered her to pay back nearly $5,000 of the money she stole.

Dennis Farina -- who starred as Det. Joe Fontana on "Law & Order" --passed away on Monday in Scottsdale, Arizona... from a blood clot in his lung. He was 69.
LADY GAGA TOPS FORBES' LIST OF RICHEST STARS UNDER 30
Lady Gaga missed half of last year after hip surgery, and STILL TOPS the list of Forbe's "Top Earning Celebrities Under 30." Gaga managed to pull in 80 MILLION dollars for 6 months of work last year. Justin Bieber was next with 58, then Taylor Swift in third place with 55 million.
Others on the list of top earners under 30 included 28 year old Katy Perry, with 39 million dollars, 25 year old Adele with 25 mil, actress Jennifer Lawrence and Twilight's Kristen Stewart.

HOMEOWNER SAYS DRAINAGE DITCH THREATENS PROPERTY
A Madison, Tennessee homeowner says a Metro Water Services drainage ditch is swallowing his property. Ken Lewis says when he moved into his home on Gray Croft Avenue 15 years ago, the ditch was about six feet from his property. He says now it's on his property and has washed away a shed and a tree, and city officials say there's nothing they can do.
BANKER SURVIVES SUICIDE LEAP
A 47-year-old Manhattan banker survived an attempted suicide jump from the seventh story of his Fifth Avenue apartment this weekend, after arguing with his the buildings co-op board over his pet poodles. The board said the poodles were too noisy and had to go, and Adam Silberman, also facing financial problems, jumped. An awning on the second floor broke his fall, and he survived with some broken bones.
