WOMAN CITED IN MURFREESBORO AFTER DOG FOUND IN HOT CAR
This is the time of year it's perfectly okay to look into every single car you pass in the parking lot. Someone just saved the life of a little pet by being observant in the parking lot of the Murfreesboro Walmart. Police say Shirley Bowling went into the store to shop and left her 3-year-old Chihuahua in the car for at least 30 minutes (with the temperature at 94 degrees). A witness saw the pet and rescued it, and called police. The Chihuahua was weak and very thirsty but is okay. Shirley got a misdemeanor citation for animal cruelty. She says she didn't think she was in the store that long.

ANTIOCH RESIDENTS WITHOUT POWER
An apparent transformer fire had around 5,000 people in the Antioch area without electricity all morning. Nashville electric service was working on it.

ARSON DESTROYS CONCESSION STAND AT HIGH SCHOOL
A concession stand burned at McGavock High School, and metro Firefighters say it's arson. Firefighters not only found the burnt remains of the concession stand but also - the incriminating evidence- blue paint splashed on some commemorative bricks nearby. No word whether police have a suspect - or suspects- in mind.

WOMEN WHO WEAR RED SEEN AS AGGRESSIVE, MORE SEXUALLY RECEPTIVE

VW INVESTS IN TENNESSEE, CREATES MORE JOBS
Volkswagen is adding two thousand jobs at the auto plant in Chattanooga to build a new Sport Utility Vehicle there. The German automaker is investing nearly a billion dollars into the plant to make it all happen. 

VANDERBILT UNIVERSITY SUED BY FORMER STUDENT
A former graduate student at Vanderbilt University is suing the school for 20-million-dollars, for sexual harassment and discrimination, saying there was a pattern of abuse from a supervising professor, and that the abuse continued even after it was reported. 

VA WHISTLEBLOWER SAYS SOME VETS PAID DOUBLE
A whistleblower in the VA scandal says while some veterans are not receiving the benefits they deserve, others have DUPLICATE records ... and are being overpaid. The VA is trying to get it together after being investigated for numerous, serious mistakes and policy problems.

Sir Ben Kingsley is coming back to the small screen.. He's signed on to star in Spike TV's mini-series "Tut."

APPLE A DAY MEANS BETTER SEX
If, "An apple a day keeps the doctor away," didn't convince you to eat more apples, maybe this will: a new study finds an apple or two a day means better sex for women. (The study is published in the Archives of Gynecology and Obstetrics) Just like chocolate and red wine, apples contain polyphenols and antioxidants, as well as phloridzin, a type of estrogen similar to the female sex hormone estradiol. METRO COUNCIL EXPECTED TO APPROVE SETTLEMENT WITH DOCTOR WHO BROKE CAR WINDOW TO SAVE CHILD
Metro Council is expected to approve a 99- thousand-dollar lawsuit settlement this week. Local pediatrician Stacey Williams filed the suit, saying Metro police officer Michael Pyle used excessive force to arrest her, and that she was wrongfully arrested in the first place, as she tried to rescue a baby in a locked car, at the mom's request.
The baby's okay, charges against the doctor were dropped, and the payout should close the case.

MAN, WOMAN FOUND SLEEPING, NAKED, IN CAR IN WEST NASHVILLE 
This must have been surprising to run across! Police were called to west Nashville, after someone found two people, a man and a woman, asleep in a parked car that was still running. Oh, and the people were naked. The woman didn't know where she was or how she got there. Police think they know how the two got there: there were empty vodka bottles, someone else's prescription drugs, and cocaine in the car.

You know where a full 1% of the entire planet's commercial wood supply now goes? It's IKEA, the Swedish furniture chain is so massive it employs 150,000 people in stores in 30 countries! Most of the wood goes to make furniture, but much goes to make the 212 million copies of the IKEA catalog that are printed each year. It's reported that the IKEA catalog is more than twice as widely distributed as the Bible. It has also been estimated that one in five babies in the UK was conceived in an IKEA bed. BLACKLIST WEIRD SCHEDULE
"The Blacklist" will be on a weird fall schedule again this year. It set to come back this fall, September 22nd, but instead of airing a full season straight through, it'll be on until November, and then, go on a 10-week hiatus before coming back in early February. They did that last year. 

VIRGINIA PRINCESS
You know how a lot of people call their little girls Princess? A Virginia man has gone a step farther, and has actually found a section of unclaimed land and laid claim to it.
Jeremiah Heaton has claimed a stretch of desert in northeastern Africa, named it the Kingdom of North Sudan, and proclaimed his seven-year-old daughter "Princess Emily."
