WINTER STORM HITS STATES TO OUR SOUTH
Four states to the south of us are bracing for some serious winter weather and possibly some serious problems because of it.
Widespread snow and ice is in the forecast for Louisiana, Mississippi, Georgia, and Alabama, and all four are under states of emergency.
     Some flights to and from those areas are already being cancelled, and officials in Georgia and Alabama, who waited too late to react last winter storm, and had people stranded and sleeping in cars and at schools, are ready to cancel schools and shut things down early, if it's needed. 

FEDS INVESTIGATING AFTER BOMB IN LEBANON
Federal authorities are investigating after a package exploded in a mailbox at a home on Vance Lane, near Hartsville Pike in Lebanon yesterday. One person was killed, one was injured. Lebanon is east of Nashville.

FORMER CHILD STAR SHIRLEY TEMPLE BLACK DEAD
Former child star Shirley Temple Black has died.She was in her prime when she was under 10, back in the depression, in the 1930s. As an adult, Temple Black served as the U.S. ambassador to Ghana and Czechoslovakia.   She was 85 and passed away from natural causes.

OBAMA ADMINISTRATION TARGETS AL QAEDA MEMBER IN STRIKE
There are reports the Obama administration is trying to get approval to target an American al-Qaeda member in a drone strike.  Laws passed last year prohibit the U.S. from ordering the killing of its citizens, but the White House, Pentagon and Justice Department are said to be building a case against the man. He's believed to be responsible for deadly attacks against other Americans overseas.

SNOWBOARDER SHAUN WHITE TODAY
Here's what's going on at the winter games: American snowboarder Shaun White is going for a third straight gold medal today in the men's halfpipe competition. Semifinal runs start at 9 local time, the finals around lunchtime.

U.S. MEN CURLING AGAINST CHINA
The U.S. men's curling team is playing this morning against China.  Team USA is looking to bounce back from its opening loss to Norway.

FIGURE SKATING PAIRS PREVIEW
And the pairs competition in figure skating gets underway today from Sochi with the short program.  The U.S. will send two pairs to the ice.

POLICE IMPERSONATORS TRY TWO MORE ROBBERIES IN MAURY COUNTY
That police imposter is still on the loose. So far the two men in a yellow Camaro have managed to pull over two people, robbed one at gunpoint and knocked out another driver with a blow to the head... and tried to pull over a couple more cars. Police say they don't use just a blue light on the dash, anymore, as these crooks are doing.... and if you see the yellow Camaro, you should call your local police department.
Authorities say if you're not sure if the person trying to pull you over is a real police officer... you should turn on your emergency flashers and drive slowly to the nearest well-lit area.

GOODWILL HOSTS JOB FAIR TUESDAY
There's a job fair today in Donelson... 10 to noon... to fill hundreds of jobs in Davidson and Wilson Counties. Jobs range from forklift perators and general warehouse positions to HR and receptionist gigs. The job fair is at the Career Solutions Center on Lebanon Pike in Donelson. 
 
RATINGS FOR OLYMPICS SO FAR
So far, the TV ratings for this year's Olympics are down from the Vancouver Winter Games four years ago. Just a little. The opening Ceremonies on Friday attracted an audience of 31.7 million on average in prime time, compared with 32.6 million for Vancouver.

WESTMINSTER KENNEL CLUB DOG SHOW UNDERWAY. WATCH ONLINE
There's another competition going on in New York this week, at the Westminster Kennel Club's Dog Show. All those furry, fuzzy, snuggly competitors taking part in their own version of finding the best of the best. Only, unlike the Olympics (I suppose) they get a little treat and a cuddle after they compete.

NASHVILLE MASSAGE PARLORS BUSTED FOR PROSTITUTION
This'll make you feel ooky if you've ever been there.... but four Nashville businesses have been raided ... because investigators say they've been offering more than massage services. Ten women were arrested on prostitution and/or human trafficking charges, from Golden Massage on Abbot Martin in Green Hills, Daily Massage on Gallatin Pike, ABC Massage on Franklin Pike and Acupressure Treatment Center on 4th Ave South.

She was Heidi, she was the Little Princess, she was adorable with her curls, dimples, and tap dancing ... and Shirley Temple Black gave a lot of people hope during the Great Depression in the 1930s. Shirley Temple Black has passed away from natural causes, at the age of 85.

JULIA ROBERTS' HALF-SISTER DIES IN APPARENT DRUG OVERDOSE
Julia Roberts half sister Nancy Motes, has died, of an apparent drug overdose. Her boyfriend found her body on Sunday. (She had tweeted a few weeks ago that her family, including Julia, had abandoned her.)  

ONE CENT GASOLINE
A glitch at a gas station in Illinois Sunday night, set the pump prices for 1 cent a gallon...and so many cars crammed into the station to fill up that police were called in to deal with the traffic jam. Cops then told the clerk that the pumps were set for a penny a gallon, so she could reset them. She's upset that not one of her customers in two hours told her about the mistake.

SETH MEYERS HIRES FORMER SNL MEMBER FRED ARMISEN AS BAND LEADER
SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE comics are just taking over the late night world. When Jimmy Fallon, takes over the Tonight Show, Seth Meyers moves into Fallon's spot as host of Late Night. They're both former SNL cast members. And now Seth has just announced that his BANDLEADER will be Fred Armisen, also formerly on Saturday Night Live.
(Fred is known for his comedy, including his own show Portlandia.. but he's also been a drummer since high school and performed in the punk rock band called Trenchmouth.)  Meyers and Armisen start their new gig Feb 24th.

FLAPPY BIRDS CREATOR PULLS APP
We know a LITTLE more about what happened to Flappy Bird! The new mobile game was becoming THE popular thing to play. It was reportedly earning more than 50 thousand dollars a day in ad revenue, and had been downloaded more than 50 million times... but the 29-year-old Vietnamese creator suddenly PULLED the game from the Apple App store and Google Play. Here's why. He says it's ruined his simple life and he just can't take it anymore.
(A tech blogger had raised questions about whether Flappy bird's popularity might be coming from bots, fake accounts run by computers, to create downloads and reviews, but said he had no proof of his suspicion. )

PHONES WITH FLAPPY BIRD INSTALLED SELLING FOR THOUSANDS
There've been phones and mobile devices with Flappy Bird installed ...showing up for sale on eBay. One got a bid of nearly 100 thousand dollars before eBay shut it down. People HAVE been known to bid higher on ebay than they're capable of paying..

GIANT CAN OF PUDDING PUTS WALKING DEAD ON MOST-TWEETED ABOUT LIST
AMC's The Walking Dead ended its mid-season hiatus Sunday, and it returned to significant Twitter buzz. Aside from gory zombie deaths, one moment in particular catapulted the show back to the top of Nielsen's weekly Twitter TV Ratings chart.
Survivor Carl Grimes, the young son of lead protagonist Rick Grimes, survived a scary zombie attack and celebrated by eating a giant, 112-ounce can (that's 7 pounds) of chocolate pudding; that scene helped the show become the top-performing broadcast on Twitter for the week of Feb. 3 to 9. The episode, entitled "After," garnered 1,240,000 total tweets. The Beatles Grammy special was a distant second, with 250 thousand.
