THURSDAY is Miracle Treat Day!  It's where you can stop in at Dairy Queen to buy a blizzard and a portion of the proceeds to to the Childrens' Miracle Network, hospitals that include the Monroe Carell Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt. The Mix Street team will be at the Dairy Queen, 831 Nolensville Pike, Thursday afternoon from 3 to 4. Buy a blizzard, help a kid. 

SAFETY WARNING FOR AMERICANS ABROAD
I know you're probably not going there, but just so you know what's going on with our people's safety around the world: the State Department is warning Americans against travel to Yemen and telling U.S. citizens already in the country to leave immediately.... because of the potential for terrorist attacks.

LOCAL  ACTIVITIES FOR NATIONAL NIGHT OUT AGAINST CRIME
Here are home, we're trying to make our communities safer with the National Night Out Against Crime. It's where we're supposed to basically TAKE BACK our neighborhoods from the thugs, get to know our neighbors, promote stronger relationships between the community and police, and let crooks know we're looking out for each other. The link above has some communities that are participating. There's also a meeting in West Nashville, and one organized by HipDonelson.

There's a job fair in Springfield today... 9 to 2 at the Goodwill Career Center. They're hiring for Automation Personnel in Sumner County. 


TENNESSEE SCHOOL BANS PEANUTS
A lot of parents are torn over this, but a school here in Tennessee has banned peanut products from school campus, altogether. The Athens public school system, northeast of Chattanooga, says no peanuts in any form, which means no peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for lunch, no peanut M&Ms, nothing.  Every year close to 400 children die from food triggered allergic reactions... half of those are due to peanuts.

A new study finds women may have an advantage when they buy cars, by shopping online! Women tend to negotiate better online... AND, both men and women seem to be biased against a woman, when she asks for a better deal, in person. 

UTAH BEAUTY QUEEN BOMBER
An 18-year-old Utah beauty pageant winner has been arrested on suspicion of throwing homemade bombs at houses in a suburb of Salt Lake City this past weekend.  Beauty queen Kendra Gill is out on bail, and so far no official charges have been filed.

GM TO ANNOUNCE SPRING HILL EXPANSION
General Motors is planning some big expansions in Spring Hill. They're expected to make the announcement today that they'll spend more than 350-million dollars to produce two new cars.

NASHVILLE LITTLE LEAGUE ADVANCING IN CHAMPIONSHIPS… YOU CAN SEE 'EM ON TV
The South Nashville Little League Baseball team is advancing to the Little League Semi-Finals. They'll play Florida on Wednesday, and you can see it on ESPN 2. (Wednesday Aug 7th, at 1pm… )

NASCAR DRIVER INJURED
NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Tony Stewart has a broken leg and is recovering in an Iowa hospital  after being involved in a four-car wreck during a sprint car race at Southern Iowa Speedway.  Stewart was leading the 30-lap race but was spun out in Turn 4 and his car went tumbling Monday night.

GM CUTTING PRICE ON VOLT ELEC CAR
General Motors is cutting the price on its slow-selling Volt plug-in car by five-thousand dollars. The 2014 Volt will now cost just under 35-grand, including shipping. (That's nearly 13-percent less than last year's model.)

A-ROD SUSPENSION TOO LONG OR NOT LONG ENOUGH?
Did Alex Rodriguez get too much suspension time or not enough? Fans seem to think not enough, the Major Leage Ball players union says it stands behind A-Rod and supports his appeal of the 211 game suspension. 

"BACHELORETTE" DESIREE HARTSOCK GETS ENGAGED
Desiree Hartsock is no longer a "Bachelorette."  On Monday's season finale of "The Bachelorette," she said "yes" to Chris Siegfried's proposal. Before that, though... just as Chris was about to get down on one knee, Desiree stopped him to fill him in on everything that had happened over the past few days.  She confessed that she HAD been in love with former contestant Brooks... but now she loved Chris.  She was in love with another man A FEW DAYS AGO!? Wanna take bets on how long this relationship will last?

A New York man goes to court today for trying to sell a baby for 100 dollars on Craigslist.  He got caught before he could make the deal.

METRO NASHVILLE OFFERING ONLINE BILL PAY
Metro Nashville Schools are now accepting online payments.  Parents can directly pay for the use of district facilities or buses, virtual school tuition and tuition for prekindergarten.  A convenience fee of two-point-three-percent will be charged on debit and credit cards.

JURY STARTS DELIBERATION IN MOBSTER TRIAL
After eight-weeks of testimony, the jury begins its deliberations in the Whitey Bulger trial.  The elderly Boston ex-mobster spent 16 years on the lam and is charged with murder, money laundering, extortion, drug dealing and gun crimes.
