SUPREME COURT RULING
Hopefully you've heard by now, the Supreme Court has ruled that legally married same-sex couples should get the same federal benefits as heterosexual couples,  including tax, health and retirement benefits. (Same-sex marriage has been adopted by 12 states and the District of Columbia.)

SAME SEX MARRIAGE STILL BANNED IN TENNESSEE
Here in Tennessee, however, our ban is still in place. Same sex marriage is not legal and it's not recognized, even marriages that were performed in a state where they are legal, don't count here. 

METRO SCHOOLS HIRING BUS DRIVERS
As we get ready for back to school.... school systems are staffing up! Metro Schools is hiring bus drivers today. They're holding a job fair at Antioch Middle School from 10 to 2.  They need more than 70 drivers, so your chances are good. 

OFFICIAL SAYS NELSON MANDELA ON LIFE SUPPORT
South Africans lit candles outside the hospital where anti-apartheid icon Nelson Mandela lay Wednesday night in critical condition... and there are reports that the former president is on life support.

PAULA DEEN BOOK SALES RISE AS OTHER PRODUCTS/SPONSORS FALL OFF
As her TV career falters, sales of Paula Deen's cookbooks are surging. Meanwhile, Deen has now been dropped by Wal-Mart and her name has been taken off four buffet restaurants.

NFL PLAYER JAILED WITHOUT BOND
Former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez wakes up in jail this morning, after being arrested and charged with murder yesterday.  Hernandez has been let go from the Patriots and is being held without bond for the shooting murder of semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd.

MAN THAT KILLED STATE SENATOR FOUND DEAD
Byron 'Lowtax' Looper has been found dead. The 48 year old was convicted of killing Tennessee State Senator Tommy Burks -- his then-political opponent -- in 1998. Looper, who was serving life in prison, was found dead in his cell yesterday morning. Officials say there were no signs of foul play. 

ANNUAL PORK REPORT CLAIMS MORE THAN 500 MILLION IN WASTEFUL SPENDING
The Beacon Center's annual Pork Report is out, and the organization says state and local governments wasted BILLIONS of dollars last year, and that Tennessee's share of the waste was 511 MILLION. The Beacon Center says, "that money could go toward paying the salaries of 11,000 teachers across the state." You can see the whole "pork" list HERE

MAN CHARGED WITH SELLING POT CANDY BARS
It's part of life in Tennessee: every summer, people pulled over and selling things out of their trucks. 55 year-old David Crawford just got arrested for doing it. He was selling candy bars at the Shell station at OHB and Lebanon Road... but they were loaded with marijuana. He couldn't really act like he didn't KNOW the chocolate candy had pot in it... he was selling them for 25 bucks a bar. He's been arrested.

JUDGE SAYS SOMEONE WITH DCS SHOULD GO TO JAIL
A Nashville judge has suggested someone from the Department of Children's Services should go to jail for making extensive redactions to the records of children who died. That means they blacked out so much information the judge couldn't make heads or tails of it. Judge Carol McCoy says hiding that much information is equivalent to contempt of court.

COOKEVILLE MOM ARRESTED FOR DRUGS, PUBLIC DRUNK AT SUPERMAN MOVIE 
Some people sneak snacks into movie theaters. A 50-year-old Cookeville woman just got arrested for having an open beer and marijuana in her purse, at a showing of the new Superman movie. She placed a prescription bottle on the counter... as she was digging in her purse for money ... then left it behind. Turns out if was full of pot. And when cops got there they found she was drunk, and had an open beer in her purse. Oh, and Sherry Moore also had her 12 year old with her. He's with another family member now. She's been sentenced to two days in jail, two years probation and fines of 12 hundred dollars.

Marie Osmond is going to become a grandmother for the first time, thanks to her son Stephen.

PROSECUTOR SAYS HERNANDEZ ORCHESTRATED MURDER
Former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez drove his friend to a remote spot in an industrial park in the dead of night - still fuming from a fight at a nightclub three nights earlier - before the man was murdered, prosecutors alleged in a Massachusetts court on Wednesday.  "He orchestrated the crime from the beginning and took steps to conceal and destroy evidence," First Assistant District Attorney Bill McCauley told an Attleboro District Court. Hernandez pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and five firearms charges, including possessing a large-capacity firearm, more than a week after the body of Odin Lloyd was found near his Massachusetts home. A judge ordered him to be held without bail because of the murder charge.

WEEKEND TRAFFIC ADVISORY: SECTION OF I-440 TO CLOSE FOR 10 WEEKENDS
Heads up! You're about to go through some construction that can make your life miserable if you forget it's going on and get stuck in it. TDOT is completely closing down a one mile stretch of 440 for the next TEN weekends to do some repair work. It'll be 440 east between I-24 and I-65. From Friday night to Monday mornings, you'll have to go another way. We'll remind you closer to the weekend so you don't forget.

THREE ESCAPEES STILL ON THE RUN
The search continues for three girls who escaped from a privately-run treatment center.  A total of nine teenagers fled Clover Bottom early Wednesday morning after taking a staff member's facility and car keys.  Six of the girls were arrested shortly after their escape.

BODY ON KENTUCKY HIGHWAY WAS NASHVILLE WOMAN
Police say a woman found dead along I-65 last month in Kentucky was a Nashville woman.  Officials say Madiha Roshdy died from blunt force trauma to the head.  According to the Nashville Police Department, the woman was murdered in Tennessee and her body was dumped along the highway a short time later.  Her husband, who is a suspect, flew to his native Egypt with his two daughters on June 7th. 

MEN CHARGED FOR PERCY PRIEST LAKE FIGHT
Two men are facing charges for a fight on Percy Priest Lake that left one of them stranded.  Police say James Phillips and Timothy Flanagan kayaked to Luau Island on Tuesday and at some point got into an argument.  Phillips allegedly fired a gun at Flanagan, then left the island with both of the kayaks.

MILEY CYRUS WEARING HER UNDERWEAR ON NATIONAL TV?
Miley Cyrus made the TV rounds this week performing her latest single. Mix "Fashion Critic" Clint Redwine observed, "Oh, my gosh! Miley's wearing a cashmere diaper on stage!"
Jimmy Kimmel seemed perplexed, as well.
