MORE THAN 60 TEACHERS COULD BE FIRED THIS FALL UNDER NEW POLICY
More than 60 Nashville teachers may be out in the job lines this fall. They could be fired for scoring too low on new state-mandated evaluations. Out of about 6-thousand Nashville teachers, 63 who are working right now scored a 1 out of possible 5, for the 2011-2012 school year. If they score a 1 a second year, this year the new policy dictates they could be let go.

RESIDENTS CONCERNED ABOUT TRASH, OVERGROWN GRASS
It’s not just your neighborhood where the grass and weeds are getting tall at the side of the road. There are a lot of people concerned right now about unmowed roadsides, and trashy greenways. Metro Public Works says its crews are working as fast as they can, but the recent rain has put the growing season into overdrive. They have to address the safety issues first. (They’re asking you to just be patient. Or, there’s always the Metro Beautification Program, which gives neighborhood volunteer groups bags and gloves to clean it up themselves. )

CHANGES CONSIDERED IN MAIL DELIVERY
About one in three of us still get mail delivered to our doors.... mail that's carried into the business, or put into a mail slot at home or work. But, even though the Postal Service has cut costs by 15 billion dollars in the last 8 years... they still lost 16 BILLION just last year. So the next thing being considered is eliminating to-your-door-delivery, and making everyone get a curbside mailbox. It's a start. (The Postal service lost 11 billion last year due to payments for future retiree health costs...)
