West Nile Numbers Triple
Doctors are asking Tennesseans to beware of mosquitoes with West Nile increasing, almost triple the cases seen in previous years.  Insect repellant, long sleeves, and getting rid of standing water around the house are helpful.

McMinnville Employee Health Bonuses
City employees in McMinnville are getting a $750 incentive to stay healthy.  If they stay healthy and pass their fitness test, they get the bonus and officials say the benefits of good health will actually SAVE the city money.

100 Year Old Painting Restoration Ooops!
In Spain a well-intentioned 80 year old artist volunteered to restore a 100 year old painting of Christ that had begun to deteriorate in the church.  Halfway through the woman realized she was in over her head and returned the painting.  According to one art historian, the painting now looks like "a crayon sketch of a very hairy monkey in an ill-fitting tunic."  The church isn't worried…if it can't be salvaged they will just hang a picture of the original. 


GMC Models With Spontaneously Deploying Airbags
Despite at least 19 reported instances of Chevrolet, Cadillac, Hummer and Buick vehicles inadvertently deploying their side curtain airbags, General Motors has not investigated any problems with its airbag sensors, beyond one recall for a single model in May. The Nashville Airport is getting ready for flu season by installing hand sanitizing stations just beyond security and a walk-in clinic that employs both a doctor and a nurse, doing what they can to keep travelers from Nashville healthy.

Looking For Wal-Mart TV Thief
Hendersonville police are working to identify the man who stole televisions from an area Walmart store on 2 separate occasions earlier this week.  Both times, the suspect - a white male entered the store, walked staight to the electronics section, loaded up televisions and left the store through the grocery side.

A member of the U.S. Navy SEAL team that killed Osama bin Laden has written a firsthand account of the operation that led to the capture and death of Osama Bin Laden.  The book  titled "No Easy Day" comes out Sept. 11 

 
Mother Risks Jail to Protect Her Son
A Springfield mother is risking becoming a fugitive in her fight to rescue her 9 yr old son from sexual assault by his father, who is now under arrest for those charges in Davidson County.  Even with those charges the mother is not being granted custody of her child. 

Mt. Juliet Police Save Money For Lifesaving Equipment
In order to save money, the Mt. Juliet police are applying their own graphics to their police vehicles.  The $4,500 in savings will be used for a new siren system. 

 
When Your House Is A Car Magnet
Early yesterday a car crashed into a Bellevue home, where it sat - the driver inside for 5 hours.  The driver was driving on a revoked license with several  infractions on his driving record.  The unusual part of this story is that the homeowner who has been in the home since the 70's said his house had been hit by automobiles at least a dozen times over the years. 

Never Before Released MLK Interview Found
A Chattanooga man was cleaning out the attic and found a pristine never before heard audio tape of an interview with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr done for a never -written memoir.  Authenticated for private sale, the tape records Dr. King saying of the Civil Rights movement - "historians will have to record this movement as one of the greatest epics of our heritage."

Southern Rockers Rock The GOP
When the GOP takes over Tampa, Florida, next week, it will do so with the support of Southern Rockers Lynyrd Skynyd, and Country music patriots The Oak Ridge Boys and Lee Greenwood.  They kick off the convention Sunday in a Southern Tribute to Heroes at the Convention.
