PARTIAL GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN LATEST
The Senate is back in session this afternoon to try again to negotiate an end to the partial government shutdown. The Senate met in a rare Sunday session focused on the shutdown after talks between President Obama and House Republicans hit a dead end on Saturday. 

SENATORS FROM BOTH SIDES MEETING AGAIN TODAY
Two leading senators from both sides of aisle think there will be a deal to raise the debt limit before this Thursday's deadline.

MORE TN STATE EMPLOYEES FURLOUGHED TODAY (MONDAY)
Due to the ongoing government shutdown workers in TN will be sent home. A state spokesman confirms state employees who work for federal programs will not be paid until further notice. That impacts over 100 workers in Human services and disability services. The Labor and workforce development office will furlough 342 workers on Monday.

CHEMICAL IN PLASTIC AND CANNED FOOD LININGS INCREASES RISK OF MISCARRIAGE
So those people who've been telling you for years, not to heat up plastic in the microwave are being vindicated. A new study found that the chemical bisphenol-A -- or BPA-- can SIGNIFICANTLY increase a pregnant woman's risk of miscarriage. And the risk goes up when a plastic container is microwaved, or a plastic water bottle or can of food (with the plastic lining) is microwaved or left out in the sun.

Daylight Saving Time Ends Sunday, Nov 3rd. That means before you get out of the car Saturday night set your car's clock back, or it'll scare you when you get in there Sunday morning!

BEWARE OF DEER!
There's something you need to kind of program yourself to think of this time of year: deer on the road. They're more active this time of year, especially at dawn and dusk, because it's mating season. State Wildlife officials remind you that if you see one deer, there are probably more nearby, and that drivers often hit a second deer while watching the first. You're also more likely to hit a deer between 6pm and midnight, when they're more active, and you have limited visibility. Each year there are MILLIONS of hits, and some fatalities for both the deer and drivers.

VA WORKER BLAMES SHUTDOWN ON SLOW SERVICE, OFFICIALS SAY NOT TRUE
Jeff Napier, an Army veteran, crushed his finger Monday and nearly amputated it. He says he waited 12 hours at the Nashville VA before a doctor finally treated him. Napier says the ER didn't seem very busy. "Eight to 10 people? How quick can you take care of that many customers? But the excuse that they gave was the shutdown," he said.  The VA, however, has posted a veteran's field guide to the government shutdown on its website. It says "all VA medical facilities will remain fully operational." The VA says none of its medical staff was furloughed.  A VA spokesperson confirmed there have been some IT people furloughed, but not in the health care division and that it has not increased patient wait times. 

WOMAN FALLS FROM CAR IN HENDERSONVILLE, 2 CHARGED
Hendersonville police have arrested two Cottontown residents, 53 year old Tona Shelton and 69 year old William Groves, for pushing a woman out of a moving car on Sunday in Hendersonville, then just leaving her there and driving away. She'll recover, but Shelton and Groves were caught a bit later and arrested.

ELDERLY BELLE MEADE MAN RUNS INTO NEIGHBOR'S HOME
An elderly Belle Meade man was involved in a one-car crash in his neighbor's driveway. The man says he confused the brake with the gas pedal and backed into a house on Siena drive. The home had JUST been rebuilt after the 2010 flood. The homeowner wasn't home at the time and no one was hurt.

CHILDREN WITHOUT REGULAR BEDTIME HAVE HARDER TIME BEHAVING
If you have a hard time making your kid go to bed at a set time, here's some more motivation. Children without a regular bedtime score worse on behaviorial issues, get into more fights and are less considerate of others in social situations. Behavior scores improved when the children started going to bed at a regular time.  

COMMUNITY RALLIES AROUND NASHVILLE TEACHER WHO LOSES HOME
A teacher at Nashville's MLK Magnet school has found out how much he means to the kids, and how compassionate teenagers can be. Science Teacher and wrestling Coach Paul Bass just lost his home and everything he owned, in a fire. He says as soon as the kids found out, they started giving. He says he didn't even realize how the kids were rallying to help him, since he lost his phone and computer in the fire, but when he got to school, it was clear the kids had been busy, collecting and donating items to help him set up house again. Coach Bass says he's still shocked and overwhelmed.

Here's one place in Hollywood that they WANT you, if you're overweight: a diet company ad.  
Plus-sized actress/comedian Rebel Wilson is the hot new "it" girl...  for diet companies... who are fighting over which one gets to sign her to promote their products to slim down.

HERMITAGE WOMAN SHOT BY MAN IN APARTMENT ABOVE HER, "PLAYING AROUND" WITH HANDGUN
A woman in Hermitage has been shot by the man living in the apartment above her. 22 year old David White admitted he was just playing around with his handgun, about 11 at night, and it went off, hitting the woman in the apartment below him as she slept. She's in serious condition. White was arrested. Oh, and it probably won't surprise you to hear this detail, but police say White had drugs in his apartment.

ARE ANATOMICALLY CORRECT FAKE BREASTS OKAY TO SELL AT NASHVILLE SHOP WHERE CHILDREN GO?
A local mother says she's UPSET that a Halloween shop at Rivergate has anatomically correct fake breasts on display where kids can see them. Michelle Hassel says she complained.. but the store managers said no one else had complained and apparently declined to cover the nipslip.

Nestlé is reportedly looking to sell its Jenny Craig brand. Many diet companies have been losing money, as consumers turn to technology like electronic trackers and online help, rather than buying expensive diet foods.

HOUSE OF CARDS ENDING?
Be careful if you share this info today, you're liable to upset some people. There's a rumor that the Netflix mega-hit  "House Of Cards" may end after its second season, which starts in February of 2014. 
Executive producer Rick Cleveland reportedly said at a recent event that the upcoming 13-episode Season 2 is likely to be the show's last.  He was quoted as saying, "'House of Cards' is only going to go a second season and I think that’s it. Kevin Spacey likes to do movies and Robin Wright likes to do movies."

Actor Charlie Hunnam has dropped out of the Fifty Shades of Grey movie, which most people are saying looks like a good career move.

WHAT'S A BANKSY AND WHY ARE TOURISTS FLOCKING TO NYC TO SEE THEM?
And what's a banksy, and why are tourists flocking to New York to see them? A Banksy is GRAFITI that's done by a certain artist, that's so good New Yorkers are hoping one is done near them.

BANKSY SET UP SHOP THIS PAST WEEKEND, SELLING ORIGINALS FOR 60 BUCKS
Banksy, the elusive British graffiti artist who has taken up a month-long residency in New York, sold a few of his pieces on the cheap over the weekend.  And by cheap -- we mean $60 apiece. This is the same artist who has sold his art for thousands of dollars, sometimes hundreds of thousands.
Banksy revealed on his website that he had set up a table in New York City's Central Park on Saturday with original signed pieces. "Yesterday I set up a stall in the park selling 100% authentic original signed Banksy canvases. For $60 each," he wrote. But they weren't there for long, apparently. "That stall will not be there again today," he wrote Sunday.
     Banksy, who hasn't revealed his real name, has been in New York over the past week or so, creating art on the streets of New York. The results have been showing up all over social media.   Banksy was behind the 2010 Oscar-nominated documentary, "Exit Through the Gift Shop."

POSSIBLE EXPLANATION FOR JONAS BROTHERS BREAKUP
Joe Jonas has been seen with a well-known addiction specialist: Mike Bayer -- the CEO and founder of Cast Recovery Services.  Sources connected with the Jonas Brothers say their possible breakup was tied to a conflict over musical direction, but Joe being seen with the rehab specialist, makes fans wonder if there weren't other problems as well.

SCHOOL CANCELLED -- FOR GREAT WEATHER!
In Columbus, Georgia, school principal Len McWilliams says he's cancelled school for bad weather for years, and since he's retiring this year, he'd promised to cancel school for a GOOD weather day, just once. He did so this past Friday.
