SCHOOL CLOSINGS/DELAYS
Most schools in the Mix listening area are closed this morning, after the rain all this weekend, and temperatures below freezing overnight. Rutherford, Williamson and Wilson County Schools are opening two hours late. You can check school closings, anytime, under the NEWS tab at www.mix929.com.   

AUTOPSY TODAY FOR PHILIP SEYMOUR HOFFMAN
An autopsy is set for today for Academy Award-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, who was found dead in his Manhattan apartment yesterday. Police expect the report to show he died of a drug overdose. Hoffman was called one of the finest character actors of his generation, but struggled with fame and addiction. In a recent interview he said he thought everyone struggles with self-love. He said, "I think that's pretty much the human condition, you know, waking up and trying to live your day in a way that you can go to sleep and feel OK about yourself." Philip Seymour Hoffman was 46. 

SUPERBOWL STUFF
The general consensus about the Super Bowl this year seems to be: that it's not so much fun seeing a one-sided game like yesterday's. Seattle beat Denver 43 to 8 in Super Bowl 48. People seem to agree that the commercials were pretty good, (SEE THEM here),  the National Anthem was great, and that Bruno Mars was the biggest scorer of the night, with his half-time performance.

Bruno won't get paid for that appearance, by the way. None of the performers do. They get the perk of being in front of more than 100-MILLION people, and the jump in album sales that comes with it. (Last year Beyonce's album sales jumped 40% after the game.) 

BUDWEISER AD LEADS LIST OF VIEWERS' FAVORITE SUPER BOWL ADS
What were your favorite Super Bowl ads? Budweiser's "Puppy Love" commercial appears to be the overwhelming favorite this year. The spot, which shows the unbreakable bond between a puppy and one of Bud's famous Clydesdale horses, is taking the top spot in a number of surveys. (Other popular spots include the Dorito's spot, the Newcastle Brown Ale, and T-Mobile's Tim Tebow spot. ) See them HERE

EXERCISE HIGHLIGHTED AT TN SCHOOLS FOR FEBRUARY, HEART MONTH
Many schools here in Middle Tennessee will be emphasizing the benefits of exercise to their kids this month: American Heart Month. The schools are trying to raise awareness through programs like the American Heart Association's Jump Rope For Heart.
          According to the latest statistics, more than 24 million American young people are overweight or obese, which increases the risk of heart disease and stroke as adults.

ATHLETES GATHERING IN SOCHI FOR OLYMPICS
Athletes from around the world are gathering in Sochi [[ SO-chee ]], Russia for the 22nd Olympic Winter Games.  The first events actually start Thursday but the official Opening Ceremony is Friday.

GROUNDHOG DAY
Groundhog day was this weekend and, according to tradition, since the groundhog saw his shadow, we'll have six more weeks of winter weather.

RUTHERFORD COUNTY TEACHER CHARGED WITH ANIMAL CRUELTY
An elementary teacher in Rutherford County is facing animal cruelty charges for killing her neighbor's cat. Katherine Duke admits she killed the cat, saying it was using her children's sandbox as a litter box. Duke is a fourth grade teacher at Wilson Elementary School, but has been on medical leave since November.

MAINE SUBSTITUTE TEACHER FIRED FOR CALLING KIDS 'STUPID'
A substitute teacher in Maine is off the job after calling her students stupid. The art teacher reportedly started calling the kids names when they had questions about a project.  She told them they were stupid and ignorant and also told one boy he was retarded. The school is looking for another substitute. 

CONGRESS HOLDS HEARINGS OVER CREDIT CARD BREACH
Congress will focus on Target's credit card information leak today in Washington. The Senate Banking committee is holding hearings with the hope of getting an idea on what steps are needed to protect shoppers.  Hackers stole 40 million credit and debit card numbers during the Christmas shopping season. 

NASHVILLE BAND PAYS FOR KENTUCKY FAMILY'S FUNERAL 
Nashville country trio The Band Perry has a hit song that touched a lot of people. It's called, "If I Die Young." Now, their actions are affecting a family and a community. The Band Perry says they're paying for the funeral of a mother and her eight kids who died in a house fire in Kentucky last week. 

BIG BANG THEORY STILL HOT. BEATS IDOL BY LARGE MARGIN
The geeks on the Big Bang Theory are still hot! In their first head-to-head time slot this season, the "The Big Bang Theory" had more viewers than "American Idol" -- 5.1 vs. 3.1 in the Nielsen ratings. 

SETH MYERS' LAST NIGHT ON SNL
After 12 years with Saturday Night Live, Weekend Update anchor Seth Myers did his last regular appearnce on the show this weekend, with help from a few surprise guests.
 
DIANE WIEST COMES TO THE BLACKLIST
Two-time Academy Award winner Dianne Wiest is heading to "The Blacklist."
