PARTIAL GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN
Both political sides are hopeful that an end to the partial government shutdown could be near. In a White House meeting with President Obama, House Republicans proposed a six week increase in the federal debt ceiling. Senate Republicans get their turn today.

MILITARY DEATH BENEFITS REINSTATED
President Obama has signed legislation restoring death benefits to families of fallen troops. A private charity had stepped up this week to temporarily cover the costs.

YELLOWJACKETS FLOURISHING AFTER MILD SUMMER
Watch out for Yellow jackets! The stinging insects are at their PEAK populations right now and are easy to stumble into because Yellow Jackets nest in the ground.... and there are a lot of people doing yard work, landscaping and fall gardening, getting ready for the winter. When they're disturbed, they send out an alarm pheromone and sting as a GROUP. Bug expert Dr. Frank Hale from U.T. says his professional advice to keep you from getting stung if you stir up some yellowjackets? Quote, "Run. Run as fast as you can!" Or, just watch where you step or where you’re digging this time of year.

TN ONE OF STATES LOSING MOST PARK MONEY
Tennessee is one of the states losing the most money on national park visitors. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park  is the most visited national park in the country, and has lost more than 23 MILLION dollars because of the shutdown, so far.

GAS PRICES BELOW 3 DOLLARS!
Before you fill up, you may want to pay attention to the price on the sign some stations are still charging up to 20 cents higher than those right next door, but at some stations in Nashville you can now find gas prices below three dollars a gallon. 

PASSENGER EJECTED FROM TEEN'S CAR DURING CRASH
Local 19-year-old Scott Myrick is facing numerous charges, including a felony, for driving 70 in a 45 on Murfreesboro Pike, running from police when they tried to pull him over, then wrecking his car. In the process, his passenger was ejected his passenger, and is hospitalized. Oh, and police found beer bottles in the car. 

COOKEVILLE, TN. JOGGER FINDS HEART IN ZIPLOC BAG
Medical personnel were called to a scene in Cookeville earlier this week after a jogger found a heart in a Ziploc bag. Turns out it was a pig heart. No word yet how it got there.

NASHVILLE KMART CLOSING IN JAN. CLEARANCE SALES START THIS MONTH
The Kmart store on Nolensville Pike in south Nashville is closing. It's been there since 1965. Some people remember when Kmarts were THE stores to go to… for the blue light specials that sent shoppers scurrying across the store to get bargains, or for grabbing a sandwich at the in-store restaurants. The store liquidation sale starts October 27th.

IS THE NEW CORSET DIET FOR YOU?
There's a new weight loss trend that's getting mixed reviews from Doctros. It's the Corset diet. Celebrities like Jessica Alba and Brooke Burke rave about wearing a corset to help them shrink their waistline after pregnancy, and some doctors say it's okay: having your stomach restricted makes you want to eat less. Other doctors are skeptical and say too-tight corsets can hurt your organs or cause rib pain, so check with YOUR doctor if you're thinking about trying  it.

TEACHER SUSPENDED FOR HITTING STUDENT
Blackman High School teacher Ronnie Bray has been suspended for allegedly hitting a student during p.e last week. 

PRODUCER TONY BROWN ARRESTED
Nashville record producer and musician Tony Brown has been arrested by Metro Police for assaulting his wife. The arrest of the 66 year old came from an incident last month, where Belle Meade police were called out. According to a police affidavit, Brown’s wife told authorities he kicked in the door to the room she was sleeping in after they had an argument the night of Sept. 11. Brown then allegedly pushed and choked her as she tried to flee to a different area. Brown played the piano for Elvis and was the record label president of M-C-A Nashville in the 1990s. Court record show he bonded out of jail Thursday afternoon.

ASTRONAUT DIES
One of the original Mercury 7 astronauts has died. Scott Carpenter flew the second American manned flight around the earth... in May of 1962, before splashing down off the Florida coast. He died in Colorado at the age of 88.

TWITTER MORE IMPORTANT TO TEENS THAN FACEBOOK
Now that everybody's gotten onboard Facebook.... Twitter has become the hot new thing. In a new teen social networking survey, more teenagers said Twitter is the most important social network, just ahead of Facebook. Next is online photo-sharing site Instagram, and waaaay down below those three were Google+ and Tumblr.

WOMAN’S FACEBOOK PLEA FINDS LONG LOST BROTHER
Julia Mauer posted a Facebook plea on Tuesday for help in finding the brother she hasn't seen since they were kids more than a dozen years ago. By Wednesday night, she had found him.Mauer says their parents were addicts and abusive and the kids got taken away, separated, and adopted. Julia is 24 now, and Isaiah is 19.. and turns out he lives just 30 miles away. They’re already facebook friends. Julia says it's a new beginnig for them both. 

MOM BATHES BABY ONCE A WEEK OR LESS, STARTS BACKLASH
A mom who confessed on her blog that she only bathes her infant once a week.. has gotten some wildly mixed reactions. Some mothers say they understand: they're babies! They're not out jogging. Others are calling the mom lazy. The 32 year old mom, Claire Goff, says this is her third kid, and she's learned it's better to pay attention to whether the child is dirty, rather than bathing on a timetable, and drying out his skin. Her doctor agrees.

MILEY CYRUS SCORES BEST RATINGS FOR SNL SINCE MARCH 76
Saturday Night Live's 38th birthday is today. The show's highest ratings this year have been with Justin Timberlake back in March, and then last Saturday: Miley Cyrus' appearance. This weekend, Bruce Willis hosts, and Katy Perry is the musical guest.

GUARDS LIED ABOUT CHECKING ON RAPIST CASTRO
Two Ohio prison guards are on leave after admitting they faked log books and lied about how often they checked on Cleveland kidnapper Ariel Castro the night he died by hanging himself in his prison cell. Officials now say it was probably not suicide: that Castro may have been trying to get a sexual thrill.

MARVEL'S 'AGENTS OF SHIELD' GETS FULL SEASON
Superheroes are HOT right now. Marvel's first TV series: Agents of Shield, the highest-rated drama premiere in nearly four years, has gotten the order to go ahead and do a full season.

IRON MAN SUIT IN THE WORKS
Even the military is getting in on the superhero thing. Researchers from the U.S. Army and M.I.T are working on an Iron Man-type suit of armor for soldiers.
