WEATHER A BIG FACTOR THIS NEXT FEW DAYS: SNOW, SINGLE DIGITS
While it IS extremely cold here, it's even colder for some of our friends and family in the northeast. 22 states are getting hammered by a winter storm that's dropping anywhere from 8 inches to two feet of snow on many cities...  and the even more dangerous part of the storm, temperatures are close to or below zero. People in the track of the winter storm are being told to stay home if they can. Thousands of flights have been cancelled, so far, and here in Tennessee, we're headed for the coldest weather we've had in years, with temperatures expected to get down to a high of 13 and an overnight low of 4 degrees early next week.

NFL PLAYOFF GAMES NOT SOLD OUT BECAUSE OF WEATHER
The weather has caused some expensive problems for the Cincinnati Bengals, Green Bay Packers and Indianapolis Colts. They're having trouble selling out their playoff games this weekend. Even die-hard fans are not wanting to go sit in freezing weather for three hours when they can watch it from their warm sofas, instead. The problem with that idea is that if the game doesn't sell out, it may be blacked-out, meaning it won't air on the fans' local TV stations. 

SOUTH CAROLINA MURDER SUSPECT BREAKS OUT OF MENTAL HOSPITAL
Authorities in South Carolina are on the hunt for a double murder suspect who broke out of a mental hospital yesterday.  Jason Carter is accused of killing his mother and stepfather in 2006.

HEALTH: NOT TOO LATE TO GET FLU SHOTS
If you haven't gotten your flu shot, it's not too late. Flu season peaks in January and February, which means you could be exposed, and then you could take the flu home to anybody else who hasn't gotten a flu vaccine. It only takes about two weeks to really get your immune system kicked in. There are people already reported hospitalized locally with the flu. 

MAN DIES REMOVING CHRISTMAS LIGHTS FROM ROOF
PLEASE be careful taking down those outdoor Christmas lights!  A 65 year old Franklin man fell off his roof onto the sidewalk below, about 12 feet, and has died from his injuries.

CROP CIRCLE APPEARS ON NEW YEAR'S EVE
An acre-wide crop circle appeared in a farmer's field in Salinas, California on New Year's eve. And fueling the fire for people who think crop circles are created by aliens, it's an especially complicated circle, with swirls and symbols, and appeared overnight. ALABAMA PASTOR ARRESTED IN NASHVILLE
An Alabama pastor accused of killing his wife, has been caught here in Nashville. Homeland Security arrested Richard Shahan on Wednesday at the Nashville Airport... as he was trying to get onto a flight to Germany. Shahan's wife was found dead at their Birmingham home in July.

EDDIE MONTGOMERY FILES FOR BANKRUPTCY
I guess it's true: You have more money, you spend more money.  Country singer Eddie Montgomery is filing for bankruptcy. Court papers show he has only one-point-nine million in assets, and 13-point-four-million dollars in liabilities. Montgomery's lawyer says the performer's troubles stem from his divorce and the closure of his restaurant in Kentucky.

And remember, before you start anything else to lose weight this year, getting more sleep is one of the most important things you can do to help that happen. Not only does it create chemical changes in your body, but more sleep helps your resolve and judgement when you're making diet and exercise choices.

IOWA COUPLE NAMES BABY AFTER NASHVILLE
An Iowa couple loved their visit to Nashville so much that they've named their baby after us. Little Nash David was the first baby born in Des Moines this year. Parents Lance and Christie say the name was inspired by a roadtrip to Music City in 2010 shortly after they started dating.

WEEKEND DRINKING MAY AFFECT DNA
Here's something that may explain a lot about some people. A new study finds that drinking alcohol on weekends may damage the DNA of people who are not even addicted to alcohol. Researchers in Mexico call it "social alcohol abuse," and say it causes long-term damage. The World Health Organization says alcohol causes two and a half million deaths a year, including 320-thousand deaths of people between 19 and 25.

YOLO-TATTOOED MAN GETS A "BINGO"
A Kentucky man is making every stupid thing you did last year, look pretty okay.
Deharra Waters of Louisville, was arrested recently for disorderly conduct, because he was running through a bingo hall with his pants down. Witnesses say he kept yelling, "Bingo!" over and over. It's not clear whether he really did have a bingo, but he did have "YOLO," for "You Only Live Once," tattooed  across his knuckles. That's not where you thought I was going with that, is it?

GALLATIN MAN MAKES FIRST CUT FOR ONE-WAY TRIP TO MARS
A list of 200-thousand people who want to travel to Mars is now down to just over one-thousand possible candidates.  The Dutch founders of the Mars One project wants to establish a permanent human community on Mars in 2025 starting with about two dozen residents. One of the applicants to make it through the first cut, is a 28 year old Gallatin Pharmacy tech.
