TRAFFIC INFO FOR THIS WEEKEND
I-24 TO HAVE JUST ONE LANE OPEN AT MURFREESBORO
Interstate 24 will be reduced to one lane eastbound this weekend for repairs to a bridge in Murfreesboro. An oversize load damaged the Epps Mill Road bridge at exit 89 in February. Eastbound travel will be reduced to a single lane at 8 p.m. CDT Friday through 6 a.m. Monday. Workers will attach a steel plate to a beam under the bridge to strengthen it. TDOT will use portable message boards to alert drivers of the expected travel delays. TDOT doesn't expect additional closures beyond this weekend at the repair site.
NO CONSTRUCTION THIS WEEKEND ON I-440
TDOT says you'll be able to use I-440 east from I-65 to I-24 this weekend. They've been working on it since June 28th... but say all work is weather dependent and that there'll be NO construction or lane closures during the weekend of the Titans’ first pre-season home game on August 24th, or on Labor Day weekend... next weekend.
STATE OF EMERGENCY FOR YOSEMITE FIRE
A Northern California wildfire twice the size of the city of San Francisco has driven hundreds of people out of their homes and driven away visitors from nearby Yosemite National Park. This is normally peak tourist time. Instead, it's peak wildfire time across the country. California Gov. Jerry Brown declared a state of emergency due to the huge wildfire, which covers nearly 99 square miles, and is one of several fires burning in or near the nation's national parks.
TVA APPROVES RATE HIKE
I hate to be the messenger on this one, but your electric bill is set to go up in October... The Tennessee Valley Authority announced this week they'll increase rates one-and-a-half-percent, which they say will add about a buck-fifty to most people's monthly bills.

FBI DIRECTOR SAYS AL-QAEDA WILL ATTACK U.S. AGAIN
FBI Director Robert Mueller [[ muller ]] says he thinks al-Qaeda will likely try to attack the U.S. again "down the road." He says the al-Qaeda threat that closed down U.S. diplomatic posts overseas still exists.
U.N. SECRETARY ASKS SYRIA TO INVESTIGATE CLAIMS OF CHEMICAL ATTACK ON CITIZENS
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon [[ Bon KEE-moon ]] is urging Syria to let United Nations investigators look into claims that government forces used chemical weapons on civilians this week. Opponents of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad say the military killed as many as a thousand people in a chemical attack near Damascus.
GREY'S CAST GETS CRUISES
Shonda Rhimes, the creator of Grey's Anatomy, has got to be the best. boss. ever! Grey's recently finished filming its 200th episode. That's a big deal in TV. Most shows don't run TEN YEARS as Grey's Anatomy has. So for a surprise gift, Rhimes gave ALL 300 cast and crew members CRUISES, to anywhere in the world they want to go. Well-played, Shonda Rhimes. Not everybody's realized it yet, but the real hero of that Atlanta School shooter incident... was the school book-keeper... Antoinette Tuff. She's the one who talked Michael Hill into putting down the weapon... and kept a bad situation from possibly turning into something even worse. President Obama called Antoinette yesterday, thanking her for her quick thinking, her compassion, and her heroic actions.

JURORS DECIDE FATE OF FORT HOOD SHOOTER TODAY
Jurors will continue deciding the fate of the Fort Hood shooter today. Army psychiatrist Nidal Hasan [[ NEE-DAHL HAH-sahn ]] is charged with 13 counts of murder and 32 of attempted murder in the 2009 attack in central Texas. He could become the first American service member sentenced to death by the military since 1961.

Holy upset nerd herd, Batman! Holy upset nerd herd, Batman! Fanboys were all excited that the next Superman Movie will feature the Man of Steel, AND Batman... but they were NOT impressed to hear that the actor chosen to play Batman is Ben Affleck. (Yep, Jennifer Garner's hubby.) Twitterverse comments included one from actor Richard Dreyfus: "You read for a part, you feel good about it, you feel confident, then they cast Ben Affleck." Someone else tweeted, "Too full of nerd outrage to tweet about the whole Ben Affleck thing... TOO FULL OF RAGE." and others... simply posted photos of Grumpy Cat.
SEVENTH GRADER IN CUSTODY FOLLOWING THREAT TOWARD MIDDLE SCHOOL
A seventh grade student from H.G. Hill Middle School has been taken into police custody after he allegedly made a bomb threat toward the school about 11:30 last night. Police say the boy is just a disgruntled student who didn't want to go to school, but that he didn't have the means to carry out the threats he made.
JUDGE SENDS MOTHER TO JAIL FOR TRUANCY
Big ups to local Juvenile Court Judge Donna Scott Davenport! She says she's TIRED of parents who won't listen, and she's sentenced a Rutherford County mom to jail for letting her 10 year old son miss nearly a month of school... to stay home and play video games. The woman's sister says she's glad about the arrest and worries about her nephew. The judge says she's done with warnings, and will send parents to JAIL for neglecting their kids' education. Truancy is illegal, and can get you fines of 50 dollars for EACH unexcused day your kid misses school.

50,000 ABANDONED DOGS ROAMING STREETS OF DETROIT
People in Detroit say it looks like some horror movie set: there's an estimated 50-THOUSAND abandoned dogs, roaming in packs, searching for food... overwhelming animal control officers, and making residents fearful for their safety. The Humane Society says when people suffer and can't take care of themselves, their pets suffer as well, and many end up starving, sick and alone.

Today could end up being the last day in office for San Diego Mayor Bob Filner. City officials spent three days in mediation to reach a negotiated settlement over allegations by 18 women that Filner sexually harassed them.
POLICE IN WASHINGTON STATE SEARCH FOR TEENS WHO BEAT WWII VET TO DEATH
Police in Washington state are searching for two teens who beat an 88-year-old World War Two veteran to death. Delbert Barton was waiting for a friend in a Spokane [[ spo-can ]] parking lot Wednesday when he was attacked by two teenagers.
CORY MONTEITH'S MEMORIAL EPISODE ON GLEE STARTS FILMING SOON
The filming of Cory Monteith's memorial episode on "Glee" is set to begin soon. Actress Jane Lynch took to Twitter after reading the script and described it as the "most beautiful thing." Monteith passed away unexpectedly last month due to a toxic mix of alcohol and heroin.
MLK CEREMONY TOMORROW
A ceremony set for Saturday on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial will mark the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington. It's the same location where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his famous "I Have A Dream" speech to hundreds of thousands of people in August of 1963.
WALMART TO SPEND 50 BILLION MORE ON AMERICAN MADE PRODUCTS
Walmart wants to spend another 50-billion-dollars on American-made products over the next decade. The retail giant is meeting with manufacturers in Orlando to determine how to move forward with its plan. Representatives from companies in 32 states, eight governors, and the Secretary of Commerce are all taking part in the discussion.

BRANDY SINGS TO EMPTY STADIUM
In retrospect, it seems like someone should have said something sooner.
Brandy was secretly slated to be the surprise grand finale at the Nelson Mandela Sports and Culture Day, but since fans had no idea the singer would be the final act at the end of a packed schedule, almost all of them had left the building by the time she stepped on stage. Oops.
The FNB stadium in Soweto, South Africa holds 90,000 guests and had been packed the entire day. When Brandy came out for her big moment, the house lights had been turned up, and remained on, and only about 40 people were left in the stands. She sang a couple of songs, looked unhappy and left.
