Raising Diabetes Awareness

Right now, 26 million Americans have been diagnosed with diabetes, about 11% of the total population over the age of 20. Kristie Ryan, Executive Director of the TN Chapter of the American Diabetes Association, says that by 2050, that number could be as high as 1 in 3.  Kristie lists common symptoms of diabetes, explains how insulin works in the body, and what role genetics and weight play.  10 year old youth advocate Jada Perry and her mother Kristie also share the story of Jada’s diagnosis, and how recent advances in technology have enabled her to have normal childhood.  Find the local chapter of the American Diabetes Association online at Diabetes.org.  And for a look at Camp Sugar Falls, check out this video.
