Midnight's Eve

Why is it always the middle of the night that I get the urge to write? The wind is howling tonight, but that usually puts me to sleep. When I was little, I loved to stay up and look out the window at the lightning flashing thru the grape vines in the neighbor's backyard, and over our barn at the back of the property. I wish storms weren't so destructive. I feel guilty for enjoying them, knowing that people have been hurt by them. Chapter two: Tomorrow is the first day of voting in the 2nd Annual Mix 92.9 Singing Star Contest. How our judges narrowed down the hundreds of entries to ten finalists is beyond me. I adore Melinda Doolittle, Victoria Shaw, and Jim Brickman, and I am very proud to call them my friends. http://www.mix929.com/mix-929s-singing-star-its-time-vote Hundreds of entries yes, but each entry represents a young person with their hopes high. I have said more than one prayer that all of these 13 - 18 year olds will continue to pursue their dreams. Even if they didn't get it this time, they put themselves out there and TRIED. What courage that takes! Bravo to each of them, and to any young person who conquers their fears. Just entering this contest or any competition takes real guts, and as we all remember it is heartbreaking enough to be a teenager. So, good for you! You should be very proud of yourself every time you take a chance. As a very wise person once said, "Regret for the things we did can be tempered by time; it is regret for the things we did not do that is inconsolable."
