The Hills Are Alive with Relatives!

When I was a junior in high school, I had one of the highlights of my life when I was offered the role of Maria in a community theater production of "The Sound of Music."

I had always been active in musical theater, but this was the ultimate! I mean, my all-time favorite movie was "The Sound of Music." I used to run around the house singing all the songs witha pillow case on my head like a nun's habit. I still remember it like it was yesterday.

Fast forward a couple of decades....

I recently started tracing my genealogy (with some inspiration from the NBC show, "Who Do You Think You Are?")  I got stuck not long after tracking my grandparents' parents, so I asked my friend Ashley for help. She is a genealogist and knows a lot more about doing this stuff than I do.

Well, within a few days, I get a note from my friend, telling me that I am related to someone famous! Famous? HOW famous? George Washington famous? Kathie Lee Gifford famous?

And then she tells me.

I am a relative of the one and only, the original, the inspiration for the movie, THE MARIA VON TRAPP!

Do you see any resemblance?

Unfortunately, she passed away in 1987, but I did spend a couple of nights at the TRAPP FAMILY LODGE in Vermont when I was about 8 years old. I could have met my kin and not even known it!

Wow! I will never watch "The Sound of Music" the same way again!
