Why is it when someone else has a fear of say, Spiders, we consider it an irrational fear, but when it's US, it's a perfectly normal, legitimate fear!
I never considered myself to be "phobic" in any way, but as I get older, I think I'm becoming moreso.
While traveling home from vacation in New England. I got stuck on a completely full flight for an hour before it took off. Plus, the air conditioning wasn't on and we were all dripping. Lovely. I kept fiddling with the round fan thing over my head but could barely feel anything. I found myself sticking my nose up in the air sucking in whatever I could. I was in row 17 (way in the back) and next to a window, so I started thinking about how long it would take to get off the plane, and a touch of claustrophobia kicked in.
"I'm fine. This is no big deal. Tomorrow I will laugh about this..." I tried to calm myself down, but I really thought I was going to have a full blown panic attack! Thankfully, I had ear plugs. So I closed my eyes and just kept breathing. But yikes! That was horrible. I have flown all over the world and never had a fear of flying. But I think I'll take a break for a while.
Whoops. Just remembered I am flying to visit Mom at the end of the month. But it's my mom, so it's worth it.
