Adoption: Questions and Answers
November is National Adoption Month. Author Jennifer Lauck shares her own story of adoption, and how it served as the inspiration for her New York Times bestseller, "Blackbird". Then, Tammy Bass, Middle Tennessee Director for Bethany Christian Services, a global nonprofit specializing in adoption and foster care, talks about the most popular countries to adopt from, including China, Ethiopia, and Russia, the cost of adoption, from travel and paperwork, to translation and more, how long the process takes, and how to spot red flags with a child, such as overly trusting or friendly behavior that might signal attachment issues. Tammy also busts some common myths, such as that adopting a baby gives you a "blank slate", or that a birth mother can later reclaim her child after an adoption. To learn more, go to Bethany.org.
