Nashville celebrates the opening Sunday of the new river-inspired Cumberland Park.  The park between the Shelby Street Pedestrian bridge and Korean Veterans Memorial bridge is the first phase in a plan to reinvent the city's riverfront.

It looks like Tennessee is getting rid of the inheritance tax and reducing taxes on groceries by quarter-of-a-percent.  The new law  will reduce your grocery tax from five-point-five- to five-and-a-quarter-percent.

If you’re going to the gym or the rec center, don’t leave your purse in the car. That's the warning from the Franklin and Brentwood police departments, which have seen a rash of smash-and-grab vehicle break-ins in Williamson County, happening especially at gyms.

A father who was riding his bike with his family last night was struck by a vehicle and killed in a tragic accident. It happened in Coffee County. Police told News 2 the driver may have found it hard to see because of the sun.

Legislation to protect teachers who allow students to criticize evolution will become law without the governor's signature. Gov. Haslam said he doesn't believe the legislation accomplishes anything that isn't already acceptable in schools. It’s the first time he’s allowed a bill to become law without his signature.

Jobs are coming to Williamson County, and an upcoming job fair will connect job seekers to more than 10 hiring companies. The job fair is sponsored by Goodwill Career Solutions in Franklin and it happens tomorrow from 10-12.

TDOT will begin a major construction project that’s going to SHUT DOWN I-24 in Nashville. The project will replace two aging bridges over Main Street and over Woodland Street near LP Field. The first closure will take place NEXT Friday, April 20 through Monday, April 23.

More than 30 people are homeless following a fire at a condominium in Hermitage on Easter morning. It happened at the Jackson Meadows condos. Everyone escaped the fire uninjured. The Red Cross is assisting the displaced families. Those wishing to donate $10 to the families can give through the Red Cross by texting "REDCROSS" to 90999.

Friday April 6

One person was killed in an officer involved shooting in Springfield late yesterday. There was a domestic dispute involving a man with a knife and that man, whose name is not yet being released, was shot and killed. The name of the officer involved has also not yet been released.

First Lady Michelle Obama will visit Nashville this month to raise money for her husband’s re-election campaign. The First Lady will attend a fund-raising luncheon at 11 a.m. on April 17 at The Pinnacle at Symphony Place, with tickets starting at $500.

A new report from the TBI shows that after years of steady declines overall crime numbers on Tennessee's college campuses are going up again. Sex offenses, assaults and drug violations are up while D-U-I's and car thefts are down.

A man in Gallatin has been attempting to lure small children to his van and police want your help in catching him. It’s happened twice in the past week near the Stoneridge Apartments. The suspect is described as a young or middle aged Hispanic male driving a white full-size van. He has short hair, is about 5 foot 7 and about 160 pounds. If you have any info that could help, call the Gallatin Police Department at 615-452-1313

Metro police on Thursday arrested a Brentwood man found earlier this month at 2:30 in the morning hiding in the closet of a CHILDS bedroom of a home in the Bradford Hills subdivision of south Nashville.
